Country NSW voters deliver tough verdict as election looms

With 5 days to go until the NSW state election, this week is the last chance for members of the public to join the almost 5000 people who have already rated their local member on the stand up for famers website.

The #StandUp4Farmers campaign, targeting regional communities, was launched in early February and aims to mobilise country NSW to ‘stand up, shout out and be heard’ this state election.

To date, almost 7,463 people have visited the NSW Farmers’ website standupforfarmers.com.au, and 4,908 have rated their local member with a score out of 10 with some surprising results.

The Top 10 ranked politicians included Orange MP Andrew Gee with a score of 8/10 from 408 voters, Tamworth’s Kevin Anderson with 8/10 from 881 voters and Adam Marshall, Northern Tablelands with 8/10 from 266 voters.

Joining them were John Barilaro scoring 7/10 from 95 voters, along with Deputy Premier Troy Grant from Dubbo with 7/10 from 82 voters.

The poorest ranked politicians included Oxley MP Andrew Stoner with 2/10 from 114 voters and Pru Goward, Goulburn MP with 3/10 from 68 voters.

Graeme Aplin (Albury) and Adrian Piccoli (Murrumbidgee) all scored 4/10.

Premier Mike Baird rated 6/10 based on 37 people who ranked him.

Campaign spokesperson and CEO of NSW Farmers’ Matt Brand said that farmers and regional communities have embraced the #StandUp4Farmers campaign, as evidenced by the number of people who have been ranking their local politicians.

“We don’t want farmers to be taken for granted in this election. It’s important for people to stand up and be heard in the lead-up to voting day,” he said.

“Country NSW is an important economic contributor to our state and our way of life and that means we need to listen to what our farmers are saying. The more people who join the campaign the more influence country NSW will have in this election.”

The website StandUpForFarmers.com.au lets users rate their MP, giving them a score out of 10 in the lead-up to the 28 March state election.

#StandUp4Farmers is a platform for country NSW to be heard on issues like drought, investment, farmers’ rights and farmgate profits.

#StandUp4Farmers is powered by NSW Farmers, a membership-based organisation that advocates on behalf of farmers in NSW and ACT. The association is not aligned to any candidate or political party.
