Veteran technology executive to lead Acquia’s rapid expansion throughout Asia and Australia
SYDNEY, Australia – 24 March 2015 – Acquia, the digital experience company, today announced that Graham Sowden has been appointed the general manager of Acquia’s operations in Asia Pacific and Japan. Sowden will be based in Acquia’s regional headquarters located in Sydney, where he will direct the company’s continued expansion in this strategic region.

Acquia is experiencing rapid growth in the region, particularly in the transportation, healthcare, and higher education sectors. Key customers include Flight Centre, Foxtel, TransLink and Earth Hour. Bolstered by increased global demand for its solutions for unifying content, community and commerce, the company is expanding its operations in Asia Pacific and Japan. Acquia will be growing its team in Australia to serve its growing customer base and broaden its market reach. During the next 12 months Acquia plans to expand its presence in North and South Asia to address increasing demand from businesses and government organisations, tackling the digital transformations that are critical for their future prosperity. Acquia’s team in India also continues to grow, powered by its work with key system integrators such as Accenture, Capgemini, Sapient, and Wipro.

Helping fuel Acquia’s growth in the region is the rollout of the Australian Government’s unprecedented govCMS initiative, which was launched to help more than 500 federal government agencies across Australia increase their efficiency and lower their costs as they better engage citizens with government services. Acquia provides an open cloud platform and SaaS applications for the delivery of govCMS from a data center on Australian soil.

“Initiatives like govCMS demonstrate how great and important organizations are transforming their users’ lives on a grand scale, improving engagement and delivering better service in every interaction. Acquia’s open cloud platform provides the technical innovation to help forward thinking enterprises thrive,” Sowden said. “I’ve joined an amazing team at Acquia, and I look forward to helping our customers succeed and grow in 2015 and beyond.”

“Graham is leading expansion of our team in APJ, helping grow our capabilities to meet the very strong demand for solutions that bring together content, community and context,” said Tom Erickson, Acquia CEO. “We’re making key investments to grow our team in Asia-Pacific Japan, and we’re committed to helping the world’s top brands gain agility to deliver personalized experiences to their customers. Adding senior leaders such as Graham will keep us moving forward in helping companies think ahead in how they engage customers.”

Graham comes to Acquia with more than 20 years of experience in Information Technology sales and marketing. He joins Acquia from Informatica, where during his tenure as senior vice president of Asia-Pacific Japan he helped the company grow revenue sixfold. Previously he was president of Asia Pacific at Mercury Interactive, was a managing director at Progress Software, and a director at Fujitsu-ICL.
