Teaching kids to code: A curriculum-based solution for Australian primary schools
ScopeIT Education offers a new ICT education solution so that every school student in Australia learns skills in programming, digital design and robotics preparing them for the jobs of the future.
ScopeIT Education is a brand new, full-service ICT solution for school principals providing high quality courses, professional instructors and all necessary equipment (including laptops, software and even a 3D printer). Each course is co-designed by Dr Heather Sharp (PhD) around the Australian Curriculum, so school principals are not required to make trade-offs with other school activities. ScopeIT Education is pleased to be partnered with the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA), the national association for primary school principals, with the vision to be the ICT educator of choice for every school in Australia.
With Australian educators, politicians and Information and Computer Technology advocates calling for coding to be included in our school curriculum, ScopeIT Education is the timely solution.
“While others are now talking about and calling for a solution, we were already developing one,” says Frank Lucisano, founder and CEO of ScopeIT Education. “To reach every child in Australia, regardless of school or social situation, we need to be innovative. What we have developed is now being expanded to primary schools Australia-wide. Inquiries are even coming from other institutions as well.”
Each course is designed as a weekly, 40 minute lesson across a 10 week school term. Starting with basic coding principles and design, subjects build on each other all the way to robotics, website and app development. Our courses are high quality and more cost-effective than most schools could reasonably provide on their own.
“Coding and digital skills go beyond a skill-set for a career in IT,” explains Frank. “It involves the fundamentals of technological design and applications, incorporating 'real world' skill sets like computational thinking, working memory, collaborative problem solving and teamwork. Almost every facet of business today involves technology and computers; a solid foundation in how these technologies are built will improve students’ efficiency and employability. If Australia wants to remain competitive and at the forefront of a globalised world, we must improve the technology skills of future generations, starting now.”
Classes have already commenced in New South Wales and are anticipated to begin in Victoria and Queensland in Term 3, 2015.
