RMITV Returns to Live Television

Announcement posted by RMITV - Student Community Television 30 Apr 2015

C31 founding member group RMITV returns to live television for first time since 2013

C31 founding member group RMITV returns to live television on the 6th of May at 9.30 pm with long-running independent motorsport news program “In Pit Lane” coming out live from the basement TV studios of RMIT University City Campus.

Since it’s inception in 1987, RMITV has broadcast live television from RMIT University helping kick start the careers of on screen talents such as Rove McManus, Hamish and Andy, Nazeem Hussain and Waleed Aly. The live television experience at RMITV has also helped countless off screen crew members gain relevant broadcast experience to break into the mainstream media business.

The tradition of live broadcasting continued until C31 Melbourne relocated from their premises from on the corner of Victoria and Swanston Streets to William Street near Flagstaff railway station in 2014, rendering the RMIT to C31 Microwave link useless, ending a 27 year tradition of live broadcast for the group.

RMIT University have recently organised a optical fibre link between C31 HQ and the RMIT University TV studios making live broadcast a possibility again for both RMIT and RMITV and restoring the age old RMITV tradition of live broadcast

With the communication minister Malcolm Turnbulls office not giving any clarity on the future of Community Television in Australia, regaining live broadcast status is a small victory for RMITV and its members

“In Pit Lane” is RMITVs longest running series and Australia’s longest running prime-time local and international motorsport news program, having just celebrated its 500th episode.

In Pit Lane Hosted by Brett Ramsey Wednesdays 9:30pm on C31 (digital 44)
