RAD ANNOUNCES new dedicated multiservice access concentrator

Announcement posted by Paclink 14 Aug 2002

Paclink has announced the release of RAD Data Communications ACE-202 Dedicated Multiservice Access Concentrator, the latest addition to its ACE product line of ATM access equipment. The ACE-202 can be used as a carrier-owned demarcation device or as a corporate connected to the public ATM network.

By deploying a relatively inexpensive access device at the customer premises, carries can manage, control, police and shape ATM traffic entering their network. They can also use the ACE-202 to consolidate and aggregate data and voice services over the ATM network infrastructure, maintain Quality of Service (QoS) end-to-end across the public network and thus offer SLA based service differentiation. When used as an interworking device, the ACE-202 enables smooth migration of legacy equipment such as PBXs and routers operating over ATM networks. The unit enables the most efficient utilisation of public ATM services for transporting different types of corporate traffic, including ATM.

An Ideal Solution for Leveraging ATM Networks

"More customers today are willing to trade modularity for cost effectiveness," said Craig Martyn, Managing Director at Paclink. "The ACE-202 responds to this market trend. It offers less modularity then the existing ACE-2002 and more user services than the existing ACE-101, thus it provides these customers an ideal solution for leaving their ATM networks enabling cost-effective provisioning of LAN, Frame Relay, HDLC and CES voice services," he said.

As a demarcation device, the ACE-202 enables carriers to define the boundary between their ATM-based public services and the customers private network. A clear demarcation point at the customer premises increases service reliability, improves network efficiency and ensures end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) support. The ACE-202 can be used as a demarcation device for native ATM or for mix of legacy services such as voice, LAN and ATM. Its built-in features enable the extension of ATM network facilities up to the customer premises. These features support various ATM services, advanced traffic management (policing, scheduling and shaping) and full OAM flow support.

The ACE-202 also provides Layer 2 and Layer 3 mapping to ATM QoS, which allows for VLAN and IP prioritization across the ATM backbone. This affords carriers the ability to offer service differentiation.

The ACE Family of Products
In addition to the ACE-202, RADs ACE family of products also include ACE-50 ATM-Aware NTU, a cost effective termination solution for ATM at STM-1/OC-3 rates, the ACE-101 ATM Network Termination Unit and Multiservice Access Concentrator, for the SME market, and the ACE-2002 Multiservice Access Concentrator, which is aimed at POP/CO users.

Available from Paclink, the ACE-202 ranges from AUD$11,000 (RRP).
