How To Save Money on Your Wedding Entertainment

Announcement posted by Music For My Wedding 01 Jun 2015

The average Australian wedding is setting couples back a sizeable chunk of cash and a large portion of it is often wasted because they don't know how to correctly source the entertainment for their big day.

Sydney wedding music specialist Dierdre Le Blang said that a majority of couples are under utilising their entertainment budgets because they're unaware of the factors that influence the cost.

“Couples often have very firm ideas on their entertainment and where it’ll be sourced, and this is where some of the pricing issues begin”, she said.

“For couples who are seeking a specific band, they need to understand that entertainers have ‘not-negotiable’ costs built into their fee which can include travel and accommodation, additional sound equipment or even special song request fees to name a few.”

“Couples will often seek quotes from entertainers who are well outside their local area and the fuel and accommodation costs alone can add up very quickly.”

“Whilst entertainers will do their best to work within a budget, if a couple isn’t a little flexible in their initial requirements or willing to consider alternatives, they could end up paying a great deal more than they’d hoped.”

“There are always a number of factors that should be considered when choosing an entertainer beyond the songs they perform or how they sound.”

“We regularly help couples who believe that as the band isn’t performing during speeches, their fee will be less; which simply isn’t the case as they’re still required on site.”

Ms Le Blang said the following considerations can dramatically influence the cost of wedding entertainment:

·         Entertainer location: Selecting an entertainer closer to the wedding venue will help reduce fuel and accommodation costs.

·         Number of entertainers: The bigger the act, the greater the cost; however to achieve the sound you’re after, you may need those additional players and so it will be money well spent.

·         Performance duration: The longer the musicians play the more you pay.

·         On-site duration: Entertainers need to set up before guests arrive so they’re not carrying in their equipment and sound checking through your canapé service. Wherever possible, reduce their on-site time.

·         Special song requests: Give your chosen entertainer plenty of time to find or learn any specific songs you’d like incorporated into your special day, and be aware that it may incur an additional fee.

Ms Le Blang said out of all the wedding expenses, an entertainer is one of the most memorable aspects, and with careful planning you can better allocate your entertainment budget.

“Martha Stewart said it best when she said “The entertainment you select for your wedding or party is responsible for 80% of the events success!” so it’s definitely an area that requires careful consideration” said Ms Le Blang.
