Announcement posted by SMASH! (Sydney Manga and Anime Show) 08 Jun 2015

Sydney, NSW, May 6, 2015 -- Sydney’s #1 anime convention, SMASH! Sydney Manga and Anime Show, is highly acclaimed for bringing prolific guests to the Australian pop-culture scene. In conjunction with SMASH!, The Japan Foundation, Sydney would like to present voice-actor NORIAKI SUGIYAMA as the third guest for SMASH! 2015.

Japanese voice-actor Noriaki Sugiyama is best known for his roles as Uryū Ishida (Bleach), Shirō Emiya (Fate/Stay Night) and England (Axis Powers Hetalia). His most notable role is none other than Sasuke Uchiha, also known as the antagonist from Japan’s successful anime series, Naruto

This cultural collaboration between JPF Sydney and SMASH! Sydney Manga and Anime Show marks the third consecutive year for both organisations.

Japan Foundation, Sydney’s Jessica Chow believes Sugiyama’s appearance at SMASH! 2015 shows that “high-profile talents from the industry recognise the growing community of manga and anime fans within Australia”.

“We are proud to be sponsoring Mr Sugiyama at this year’s SMASH! convention,” Chow said.

“SMASH! is committed to Japan’s unique pop-culture of manga and anime, and bringing its passionate fans together which ties in perfectly with The Japan Foundation, Sydney’s mission of ‘Bringing Japan to You’. We are excited to see what SMASH! will bring to the convention this year.”

SMASH! President Andrew Qiu could not be more “ecstatic” about the partnership and affirms the importance of having JPF Sydney on board.

“We would like to thank The Japan Foundation, Sydney for making this opportunity possible by bringing Mr Sugiyama to SMASH! 2015,” Qiu said.

“JPF Sydney’s ongoing support for SMASH! highlights the strong demand to bring the best of Japanese pop-culture to Australia.

Naruto is one of Japan’s commercially successful series to date. This is a real treat for many Australian anime fans as they will get the chance to learn more about the voice-acting industry, and Mr Sugiyama's Naruto journey.”

Fans will have the opportunity to meet Noriaki Sugiyama at the convention, and attend an exclusive Q&A panel.
