Unisys launches Business Blueprinting to help organisations dramatically increase return on technology investments

Announcement posted by Unisys 29 Aug 2003

Industry knowledge and advanced technology combine to provide clients real organisational agility, savings of up to 60%
Unisys is launching Unisys Business Blueprinting, a major initiative that enables clients to quickly adapt business processes to change. Early client experience indicates that Unisys Business Blueprinting can deliver cost savings between 25 and 60 percent from improved business processes, reduced cycle times and elimination of redundant elements.
A comprehensive consulting, development and delivery strategy, Unisys Business Blueprinting builds digital models that link business processes to the software and systems that support them. Unisys Business Blueprinting allows clients to visualise how strategic changes would affect the IT infrastructure as well as the business itself. This enables them to rapidly assemble new business structures people, processes, and technology to prepare for shifts in the market, shifts in the organisation, or shifts in the technology. Unisys is applying this approach to high-volume, business-critical systems in the industries it works with.
"Typically, clients with multiple lines of business have multiple legacy systems that support them, often with significant functional redundancy. Using Unisys Business Blueprinting methodology, redundant process elements can be identified and eliminated," said Joe McGrath, President, Unisys Enterprise Transformation Services. "Our analysis of applications in our target industries shows that 30 to 50 percent of business process elements can be removed through Unisys Business Blueprinting. Further, the time to implement new systems can be reduced by as much as 40 percent using this approach. The combination of reduced time to completion and streamlined business process results in significant pay-offs in ROI and productivity."
One client that has used Unisys Business Blueprinting is ING Group, a global financial institution of Dutch origin offering banking, insurance and asset management to more than 50 million private, corporate and institutional clients in 65 countries.
"Technology-based Business Blueprinting allows organisations with diverse operations to achieve greater operational efficiencies," said Age Miedema, ING's chief operations officer, European insurance operations. "The key is leveraging a common architectural platform to make the most of critical business processes and supporting software capabilities. In partnering with Unisys, we have sought to rationalise the business blueprint at ING, developing core processing applications that leverage the strengths of a common platform. As a result, we expect to move current and prospective products to market with considerably greater speed. At the same time we can provide better service to our customers and distribution channel partners. We are working with Unisys to fundamentally change the role of technology, this time as a strategic enabler in implementing rapid business change."
