Barkly Regional Arts is proud to present the annual Desert Harmony Festival in Tennant Creek, Northern Territory. Celebrating 26 outstanding years, the festival delivers a diversity of artistic and cultural programs, celebrating the Barkly region's unique Indigenous and multicultural demographic.
The line-up for 2015 is nothing short of spectacular! Held in the beautiful heart of Australia in the vibrant town of Tennant Creek, audiences will be treated to a diverse range of cultural and contemporary events and workshops. With music and dance performances, cultural activities, sporting and lifestyle events, theatre, film, youth events, visual arts and great food, the 2015 Desert Harmony Festival will be an inspiring, unique and truly memorable experience.
The Australian Government has provided $60,000 to support this year’s Festival in which this year’s theme is reflecting key disability messages. The Australia Council for the Arts is also on board as a major supporter.
A National Disability Insurance Scheme spokesperson said the Desert Harmony Festival will be a great opportunity to speak to the community about how the NDIS can support people with disability in the Barkly region in the Northern Territory.
The 2015 festival will feature performances from the ever-popular Coloured Stone, the critically acclaimed Djuki Dancers from Elcho Island, Leash & the Dusty Boots and rising stars from Marlinja community Rayella, and a host of amazing bands from across the Barkly Region including the Barkly Boys & WMC Allstars. Local hip-hop sensation Kylie Sambo will be teaming up with Alice Springs based Cutlery (DJ’s) to create some inspiring and creative new music.Prepare to be enchanted, as Opera Australia presents the new, fully-staged production of The Magic Flute, complete with fabulous 1930s costumes, a chamber orchestra and a vibrant cast of singers – including the Barkly Youth Choir. There will also be a special pre-show performance with the Opera Australia Chamber Orchestra and the local Winanjjikari Music Centre musicians.
Sport, theatre, dance and music meet head-on as the critically acclaimed Melbourne dance-theatre company Kage brings you Team of Life. Then immerse yourself in the roaring atmosphere of the Barkly AFL Grand Final.
Melbourne City Ballet's graceful dancers will enchant audiences and Caravan Burlesque brings their raunchy, jaw dropping spectacular Birds of Paradise Burlesque to town.
Set to the breath-taking backdrop of Lake Mary-Ann, the always-popular Arts Cultural Experience Day will feature a range of cultural activities, arts markets, bush tucker and music. The Hunters and Collectors Art Trail provides a unique tour of local galleries and artists and the Cheeky Dog Cycle Tour is a great way to keep fit and see the beautiful landscape.
