High Quality Voice Compression Over Circuit Or Packets

Announcement posted by Paclink 26 Feb 2003

Next Generation Compressed Voice Gateway More Efficient
Paclink announces that RAD Data Communications has released its new Vmux-2100 compressed voice gateway, which enables up to 16 E1 or T1 lines to be extended over a single E1, T1 or Ethernet uplink.
The Vmux-2100 inaugurates the next generation in RADs popular Compressed Voice System (CVS) family of products, long recognised for its efficient, toll-quality voice compression algorithms.
More Efficient than VoIP Gateways with Compression Rate that of VoIP
Like typical VoIP systems, the Vmux-2100 supports G.723, G.729A and G.711 standards. However, by employing RADs innovative packet-based TDM over IP (TDMoIP) technology, the Vmux is able to support a more efficient use of bandwidth through even higher compression rates. While VoIP currently yields voice compression rates at the industry average of 10-12 kbps, the Vmux compresses at a rate as low as 5.3kbps approximately half that of VoIP.
Also contributing to the superior efficiency of RADs Vmux-2100 is its compact size. At only 1U (1.75 inches) high, the Vmux occupies considerably less space than the average VoIP system, a significant factor in minimising co-location costs.
According to Craig Martyn, Director of Paclink, For these reasons, the Vmux-2100 is an attractive solution for cellular operators and international carriers backhauling traffic over another carriers network, substantially minimising operating expenditures.
Smooth Migration Path From TDM to IP Voice
The Vmux-2100 is a versatile product that is able to support voice, fax and any data over IP. Moreover, because it can be configured either with a TDM or Fast Ethernet uplink, the Vmux can provide a smooth migration path from TDM-based application to the world of IP, Mr Martyn said.
RADs Vmux-2100 also excels over VoIP gateways in terms of provisioning time and ease. The Vmux can be fully configured in a matter of minutes, whereas the complexity of VoIP gateways can require several hours of provisioning time. The product also features full SNMP management, and the RADview Service Centre package monitors and manages the operation of the equipment. The Service Centres intuitive GUI interface, point and click functionality and easy-to-follow wizards increase the efficiency and accuracy of the service provisioning process.
The Vmux-2100 supports a wide variety of signalling, including MFC/R2, ISDN, SS7 and any CCS signalling, as well as fax and data modem relay. In addition, it supports full back up over a second E1 or T1, and will soon offer full redundancy between WAN and LAN.
Available from Paclink, the RRP for the Vmux-2100 with one Ethernet and one Channelised E1/T1 modules is AUD 22,821 (ex GST).
