The Australian Timber Flooring Association Floored By The Quality Of Entries At This Year's Awards For Excellence

AT THIS YEAR’S AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

 

A much loved family home in Perth, a new $60 million dollar private home at Point Leo, the commercial flooring of a building in Sydney named 2014's “Best Tall Building in the World” and recycled timber from end-of-life power poles and bridge timbers processed exclusive use in a Surfers Paradise hotel, were among the winners from around Australia celebrated at the Australian Timber Flooring Association Award For Excellence in Melbourne on July 18.

 

Held at Showtime Entertainment, South Wharf Promenade, the Gala Dinner and Awards for Excellence recognise the best boards in the business as the Australian Timber Flooring Association honoured its star performers.

 

Award winning comedian, best-selling author, actor and musician Marty Fields hosted the annual awards.

 

Timber now makes up 25 per cent of the flooring market, and is growing every year as homeowners and builders appreciate its benefits and beauty.

 

John Hollis, president of the ATFA and chief executive Randy Flierman who represent more than 600 timber flooring contractors, manufacturers and suppliers across Australia and New Zealand addressed more than 200 attendees at the Gala Dinner and Awards of Excellence.

 

The peak industry body, established in 2005, is now an invaluable - and free - resource for anyone with an interest in timber flooring from home renovators and new-home builders to architects, draftsmen and interior designers.

 

This year eleven awards were awarded recognising: Floor of the Year Residential Site Installed; Floor of the Year  Commercial Site Installed; Floor of the Year Manufacturer Factory Finished; Floor of the Year  Recycled Site Installed as well as seven individual awards handed out for Australia’s best timber flooring apprentice, employee, contractor, showroom, sales representative, distributor and innovative product.

 

Winners on the night included:

 

Pacific Floors (Melbourne, Victoria) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Manufacturing Factory Finished Floor of the Year Awardfor a floor installed into a new $60m private home at Point Leo, Victoria. The lounge and entry area of the home alone required 300m² of timber.

 

NS Timber Flooring (Brisbane, Queensland) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Recycled Site Installed, Floor of the Year Award for a floor installed from exclusively recycled timber from end of life power poles and bridge timbers installed into the Watermark Hotel, Surfers Paradise Boulevard, Surfers Paradise, Queensland.

 

SE Timber (Sydney, NSW) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Commercial Site Installed Floor of the Year Awardfor a floor installed into One Central Park in Sydney, who in 2014 was declared the Best Tall Building in the World by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

 

Aarrans Timber Flooring Solutions (Perth, WA) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Residential Site Installed Floor of the Year Awardfor a floor installed in their very own home, built 25-years-ago that recently underwent a much needed renovation. Aarrans Timber Flooring Solutions owners Sam and Lyn Marafioti were delighted with their win and are enjoying their stunning self- installed and self-designed timber floor.

 

Tim Osbourne from Harmony Timber Floors (Mermaid Beach, Queensland) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Apprentice of the Year Award.  According to Tim’s employer Harmony Timber Floors, Tim is a true asset to the company, he has developed from a store cleaner to one of our top installers to whom we assign our premium projects with top builders.

 

Jules Burgess from Marques Flooring (Nerang, Gold Coast) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Employee of the Year Award.  According to Jules’ employer Marques Flooring, Jules has been part of the flooring industry for the past four years. In an industry dominated by males, Jules sets a great example for other women in the sector. While Jules started in accounts, she now has a long list of trade customers who rely on her for orders and technical advice. Jules is an asset to our company and the industry.

 

Sharon Hooker from NS Timber Flooring (Brisbane, Queensland) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Sales Representative of the Year Award.  Sharon’s attention to detail and effortless grace under pressure lead NS Timber Flooring (Sharon’s employer) to nominate her for the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Sales Representative of the Year Award.

 

NS Timber Flooring (Brisbane, Queensland) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Showroom of the Year Award. Eight quality entries battled it out for this title. The winning submission NS Timber Flooring presented a recently reconstructed showroom featuring stunning examples of industry craftsmanship in solid Rosewood, dark tones of Roasted Peat through to light blonde species such as White Mahogany.

 

Marques Flooring (Nerang, Gold Coast) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Distributor of the Year Award.For the fourth time in succession Marques Flooring a pioneer in the industry for over 25 years, won this coveted award. Owner Alberto Marques has built a strong reputation for excellence delivering exemplary service and advice to the timber flooring industry.

 

RP Quality Floors (Adelaide, South Australia) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Contractor of the Year Award. RP Quality Floors have been operating for fifteen years and area deserving recipient of this award.  In addition to exemplary business practices, RP Quality Floors are passionate about supporting their community; it was their fundraising activities for their local Muscular Dystrophy association that caught the judge’s eye.

 

Harmony Timber Floors (Mermaid Beach, Queensland) won the Australian Timber Flooring Associations Innovative Product of the Year Award. Harmony Timber Floors innovative veneer surface engineered wood floor combines the unique patterns in real wood with the easy installation of click floors. Through a simple twist, PAR-KY TWIST, creates a single herringbone pattern, but can also make a double herringbone or a square tile pattern. PAR-KY TWIST is a truly innovative product.
