One Imperfect Mum Sets Out to Empower Melbourne Women

Announcement posted by Strawberry Communications 27 Jul 2015

The rules imposed on women living in today’s society can be stifling and dangerous, but self-confessed ‘imperfect mum’ Kristy Vallely is leading the charge by challenging women to create a fulfilling life for themselves through her Melbourne event Empower

Empowering Women has been organised by Kristy, who founded The Imperfect Mum online community, to inspire attendees to take action and give their lives meaning.

Mother of three Jessica is one example of how Imperfect Mum’s online sisterhood empowers women. Jessica turned to the community when experiencing postnatal depression and considering suicide (see Jessica’s account here: https://youtu.be/5PSzJkLTvJ4) and credits Imperfect Mum with saving her life.

Empowering Women is at Rydges on Swanston, 701 Swanston St, Carlton, between 8am and 5pm on Saturday, August 22.

Kristy explains how Empowering Women encourages attendees to take action: “The pressures of the modern woman does not have to be dealt with alone. We are in this together”.

“There is a lot of talk about the negative aspects of the online space and social media is often cited as a haven for bullies, such as the trolling Charlotte Dawson endured before her death. However, it is vitally important to look at the other side of that argument to see how women like those within the Imperfect Mum online community, band together to support and empower their sisters,” Kristy explained.

The Empowering Women event features a list of speakers who will inspire and challenge their audience to make the changes necessary for them to live more fulfilled lives.

“This powerful line up of leading female movers and shakers will rock you to the core,” Kristy said.

Speakers include Eden Riley, Bianca Shugg, Nathalie Brown, Suzie Botross, Sophie Shaw, Sue Davey and Kristy herself.

Tickets are $135 and include the event, networking, meals (morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea), drinks (coffee, tea and water) and a goodie bag.
