Ita Buttrose: “I want to see your world”
Last weeks to enter the mEYE World Photographic Competition

As head judge of the mEYE World Photographic Competition, Ita Buttrose wants all Australians to show her a little piece of their world. The call out is all part of her tireless efforts to raise awareness of macular disease in her role as Patron of the Macular Disease Foundation Australia.

“This competition reminds us to value our vision,” says Ita. “There is so much beauty in the world around us and I encourage all Australians to embrace the competition theme See My World by entering a photo which highlights the importance of sight in their daily life.”

It’s easy to enter and it’s free. Simply submit a photograph online along with a brief description of how it captures the competition theme See My World. There are more than $13,000 worth of prizes to be won – but only if you enter before 8 September!

“Photography captures the world around us like no other medium,” says Ita. “In previous years some of the winning entries have been magical and I am looking forward to seeing a similar standard this year. We are looking for entries that are personal and creative interpretations of the entrant’s world.”

The competition, which is in its fifth year, was established by Macular Disease Foundation Australia to raise awareness of macular disease, the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia. Macular disease includes diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration, both of which take away a person’s sight. However, if detected early, sight can be saved.

Ita will be joined on the judging panel by internationally recognised photographer,
Rex Dupain, and one of Australia’s longest-serving news photographers, Alan Pryke.

The competition will close 8 September 2015.
