Announcement posted by Kyocera 07 May 2002

Kyocera Mita Australia, the leading document management solutions company, today officially celebrated its contribution to The Office of Western Sydneys Corporate Partner for Change (CPC) training & employment opportunities programme - with a visit from Minister Kim Yeadon to its Regional Headquarters. Kyocera Mita is the first digital technology vendor involved in the scheme, providing fully paid year-long traineeships, and prospects for full-time employment.

The Minister for Western Sydney (as well as Information and Technology, Forestry and Energy) toured the North Ryde facilities and congratulated the first two graduates of the CPCs new training programme for the digital technology industry: Karen Pang and John Batibasaga.

Mr Yeadon said, This new training programme is filling a critical skills shortage in the digital technology industry which is growing at a rate of 33 per cent per annum. Right now, there is a need to train or re-train at least another 1,000 people, and the support of major vendors like Kyocera Mita is invaluable for this nations future.

Karen and John were selected from over 40 applicants at the beginning of the year.
They have recently completed a five week pre-vocational training course at the Electrotech Skills Centre in Rhodes, which was funded by The Department of Education and Training.

With branch offices in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide, Kyocera Mita hopes the scheme will eventually be replicated throughout Australia.

Mr David Finn, Managing Director of Kyocera Mita, said, The IT and office products markets are converging very rapidly, creating a significant demand for people with both computer systems and document management systems skills. As the leader in the multi-function device market, it is fitting and an honour that we are leading the training in this area too.

This investment comes on the back of Kyocera Mitas 67% local growth over the past year, which has brought the company to number 2 position in the Australian laser printer market - making it the fastest growing laser printer brand in Australia.

The CPC programme, run by the Office of Western Sydney, was initiated in partnership with Business Technology of Australia, Electrotechnology ITAB and MEGT.
