Meltwater Australia named a Best Place to Work in 2015

Announcement posted by Meltwater 02 Sep 2015

SYDNEY – September 2, 2015 – Meltwater, a global leader in media intelligence solutions, today announced it is one of Australia’s best places to work with fewer than 100 employees. The results are based on a national survey of more than 43,500 employees by Great Place to Work® Australia.

The 2015 list comprises 50 companies, representing the best workplaces in Australia. 43,500 employees from 130 organisations were surveyed about their workplace experiences using the Great Place to Work® Institute Trust Index© assessment.

Meltwater was recognised for its phenomenal culture based on its core values of ‘MER’ - which stands for ‘Moro’ (Fun), ‘Enere’ (Number One) and ‘Respekt’ (Respect), and means ‘More’ in Norwegian. The company is rapidly growing its Australian team and is known for hiring on potential rather than experience. The company’s commitment to hiring the latest skilled talent is reflected in the median age of employees, which currently sits at 26 years old.

"It is an honour to again be recognised among such notable brands like Intuit and Atlassian on this year’s list of Great Places to Work in Australia," said Meltwater Founder and CEO Jorn Lyseggen. "The culture at Meltwater is the strongest it has ever been and this is testament to the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of our Australian team. We are proud to provide a workplace that demonstrates our passion for building a high-trust and dynamic culture. It’s not just essential for attracting the best and brightest to our team, but is also a strong contributing factor to our tremendous growth in Australia and Asia-Pacific, as we redefine online media intelligence solutions for our innovative clients and partners."

In the employee survey conducted by Great Place to Work Australia, Meltwater received an impressive 92 out of 100, with some of the key results including:
  • When you join you are made to feel welcome – 100%
  • People celebrate special events around here – 100%
  • People here are willing to give extra to get the job done – 100%
  • This is a fun place to work – 100%
  • There is a family/team feeling here – 98%
  • I’m proud to tell others I work for Meltwater – 95%
  • Management shows appreciation for good work and extra effort – 95%
“Seeing results like these from my team definitely makes me proud but not necessarily surprised,” said Meltwater’s Area Director for Australia & New Zealand, David Hickey. “Our employees are encouraged to make suggestions and play an active role in decisions regarding their jobs, working environment and the future of our company. At Meltwater, everyone’s opinion is not only heard, but valued.”

As a global organisation, it is important that all employees receive the opportunity to speak face to face with the global leadership team, which is why Meltwater holds an annual company wide conference and also ensures the senior leadership team visit local offices periodically through the year. Employees also have frequent 1:1 sessions with their local managers to discuss their development, career progression, and ideas for the continual growth and enhancement of the business.

Founded in Oslo, Norway in 2001, Meltwater now operates 50 offices in six continents. It opened its first Australian office in Sydney in November 2006, and last year achieved year on year growth of 45 per cent in the ANZ region. It expanded to Melbourne in 2008 and Brisbane in 2009, with both teams moving into new offices this year.

Meltwater has also appointed former Etihad Airways HR manager Rachel Tschannen as Senior HR Manager for Meltwater Asia-Pacific. The company is actively recruiting to support the rapid growth.
