Mental Health First Aid Training Course in Brisbane, Date: 16 -17 September, 2015

Announcement posted by Workplace Mental Health Institute 09 Sep 2015

Mental Health First Aid course in Sydney is designed to increase the mental health literacy of the public, and to provide a basic foundation in mental health for people working in the community sector
Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, or who is in a mental health crisis (e.g., the person is suicidal or has had a traumatic experience). Like physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid is given until the person receives professional help or until the crisis resolves.

In the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course, you will learn the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help, and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective. You will take away an evidence based tool to assist adults in these crisis situations:

• Depression
• Anxiety problems
• Psychosis
• Panic attacks
• Traumatic events
• Severe psychotic states
• Severe effects of alcohol and drugs
• Aggressive behaviour
• Substance use problems
• Suicidal thoughts and behaviours

When you complete the Mental Health First Aid course with us, you will be issued with a certificate which can be used towards your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) qualifications. A manual is provided to each participant attending the course, along with useful mental health resources.

Mental health first aid strategies are taught in evidence-based training courses authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and delivered by accredited MHFA Instructors across the country. The Mental Health Recovery Institute offers MHFA Courses as authored by MHFA Australia, delivered by Instructors who are currently accredited by MHFA Australia.

The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis.
