From Brazil to Melbourne - A Sustainable Fashion Exclusive

Announcement posted by Melko 21 Sep 2015

An Australian first, the beloved Brazilian fashion label ‘AUA’ is being welcomed to Melko boutique stores in Melbourne. The label, founded in 2003 in the city of Belo Horizonte, introduced indigenous collaborations in its past seasons. After their success, AUA formed a new partnership with The Ye’Kuana tribe of Brazil.

For the partnership, AUA’s passionate design team immersed themselves into the vibrant culture of the Ye’Kuana tribe. Experiencing the way the indigenous community live and breathe gave a rare insight into their unique celebration of culture.

With a population of just over 200, the Amazonian tribe live alongside the Caura River (bordering Brazil and Venezuela). The tribe are remotely located, there is no electricity or water system.

Only through cultural immersion could the designers at AUA develop such an amazing interpretation of the Ye’Kuana tribe. The result of this collaboration is striking geometric prints and gorgeously soft fabrics that leave the customer with an aura of honey nectar.

This collection, like no other, is now an Australian exclusive to Melbourne’s Melko boutique. If you are still not convinced by the collection’s unique philosophy, then you will be pleased to know that 5% of all sales will go directly to the Ye’Kuanas tribe.

Everybody has their own story; built on the foundations of their personal experiences and passions. Similarly to the uniqueness of our fingerprints, our stories determine how we place our own mark on the world. At Melko, we believe that the stories of the designers are what make their clothing so unique. Supporting ethical, sustainable labels is an important part of our philosophy.
