Australian aid newspaper advert leaves Malcolm Turnbull lost for words
As Australians enjoy their vegemite on toast and coffee this morning while reading their morning newspaper, they’ll come face-to-face with an issue that’s left the ever-eloquent Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, lost for words.
Off the back of recent announcements from the ALP and the Australian Greens committing to repairing the Australian aid budget, Campaign for Australian Aid is asking Mr Turnbull to find his voice on Australian aid.
“Come on Mr Turnbull - we’ve gone to the effort of writing your speech for you, now you just need to make the announcement so that Australia can join other leading nations in the fight to end extreme poverty,” said Executive Officer for the Campaign for Australian Aid, Tony Milne.
“We need all politicians and political parties to support more and better aid. The aid budget has been cut by $11.3 billion - we know that's going to have devastating consequences. People are standing up for Australian Aid with many going tohttp://dearprimeminister.org to write to Malcolm Turnbull to let him know cutting aid is not who we are. We're better than that.”
Since its launch just over a week ago in which Australians were asked to write to the Prime Minister and their local MPs, thousands of letters have been written by Australians and sent to Mr Turnbull.
“The new Prime Minister has the power to repair Australian Aid, repair our international reputation, and ensure Australia is a good global citizen and a good neighbour,” said Mr Milne.
