EMC and Fujitsu Siemens computers showcase world-first global failover and recovery

Solution integrates SRDF/A and PRIMECLUSTER software to deliver automated business continuity across global distances
In an effort to address the growing recovery needs of global corporations, EMC Corporation and Fujitsu Siemens Computers today demonstrated the global failover and recovery of a live SAP ERP application between two data centres located in Hopkinton, Massachusetts and Cork, Ireland. Within four minutes and thirty-five seconds after the intentional failure in Hopkinton, which occurred at 10:57 a.m. EDT, the recovery location 3,000 miles away in Cork was running and fully processing SAP transactions.
The first-of-its-kind integrated failover and recovery demonstration of a production application over transatlantic distances showcased a new, integrated global recovery solution comprising EMC's high-performance SRDF/Asynchronous (SRDF/A(tm)) remote replication software, Symmetrix DMX GigE multi-protocol channel directors and Fujitsu Siemens Computers' full-featured PRIMECLUSTER(tm) product suite for high availability. This solution is generally available today from EMC, Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Fujitsu Computer Systems in North America. The new long-distance capability allows companies to make more efficient use of existing information and communication infrastructures.

Today's global failover and recovery demonstration included clustered PRIMECLUSTER nodes and EMC Symmetrix DMX storage systems on two continents using SRDF/A for high-performance replication. Replicating an SAP R/3 ERP application, the demonstration produced a production site failure with seamless and automated (no administrator intervention required) failover from EMC and Fujitsu Siemens Computers systems in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, to systems in Cork, Ireland. The integration among PRIMECLUSTER, SRDF/A and SAP software enabled failover and recovery over nearly 3,000 miles.
SRDF/A, the world's highest-performance extended-distance replication software, creates and maintains a recoverable and restartable copy of critical data over any distance with no host application impact. The sophisticated high-availability services of PRIMECLUSTER software manage the geographically distributed cluster, participating applications and system components, while monitoring the cluster 'heartbeat' to protect against primary site failure. Together, SRDF/A and PRIMECLUSTER software ensure a successful, automated and controlled failover in support of continuous business operations.
