ARIA Week returns in 2015 celebrating its biggest line up ever

Legendary music industry icon Lyor Cohen confirmed for a Q&A at ARIA Week Masterclass

ARIA Week returns to Sydney for the fourth year from November 21 with its biggest and most dynamic and diverse lineup yet.  ARIA Week presents a program of special one-off gigs, showcases, conferences and events taking place in and around Sydney in celebration of Australian music coinciding with the 2015 ARIA Awards Connected By Telstra.

Presented in partnership with the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, ARIA Week will once again see Sydney abuzz with the very best new artists and ground-breaking music industry conferences, showcasing the wealth of talent and opportunity the Australian music scene has to offer.

ARIA is thrilled to confirm that Lyor Cohen, an American music industry icon executive and Founder of 300, is confirmed to be the keynote speaker at the invitation-only ARIA Masterclass on Tuesday, November 24.

Lyor Cohen has been actively involved in the music industry at various top labels (Def Jam, Island Def Jam Music Group and Warner Music Group) for more than 30 years, and was a pioneer in bringing hip-hop music from the margins of pop culture to the mainstream.

ARIA CEO, Dan Rosen said: “ARIA is delighted to welcome Lyor Cohen to Sydney as the keynote speaker for this year’s ARIA Masterclass. With more than 30 years in the business, Lyor has been at the forefront of the global music industry. As a founder of Def Jam records he worked with many hip hop greats including Public Enemy, Jay Z and Kanye West to name a few.  I look forward to him sharing some of the unique insights he has gathered from throughout his extensive career.”

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres, said “ARIA Week continues to go from strength to strength and returns in 2015 with an expanded program showcasing Australian music. ARIA Week is also proving to be a strong launching ground for up and coming artists with acts featured in last year’s ARIA Week showcases going on to be nominated at the 2015 ARIA Awards.”

The Electronic Music Conference (EMC) and EMC Play will also be a key part of ARIA Week 2015 this December 1-2. The Electronic Music Conference (EMC) for the Asia-Pacific region brings together aspiring artists and the world’s electronic music leaders for two days of panels, workshops and invaluable networking opportunities. This year’s conference will be centred around the theme ‘Connectivity’, with a particular focus on the role technology and collaboration plays in electronic music. EMC will take over Sydney’s ivy complex and feature keynote talks from pioneer DJ Carl Cox and BBC broadcaster Gilles Peterson, the line-up also includes Tkay Maidza, Ta-Ku, Tigerlily and many more.

By night, EMCPlay, Australia¹s biggest dance music extravaganza, will showcase the country’s most established talent alongside the hottest emerging artists. Nicole Millar, L D R U, Set Mo and Mashd N Kutcher are just a few of the names set to perform across multiple venues in Sydney’s CBD on December 2.

Sydney venues can become an official part of the ARIA Week program by registering their shows on the ARIA Week website - www.ariaawards.com.au/aria-week/register-gig.  Registered shows will be added to the list of official gigs on the ARIA Week website.

 SUNDAY NOVEMBER 22

Loudfest
2015

Venue: The Lair, The Metro

Hellions, Stories, Endless Heights, Void Of Vision, Bare Bones and Harbours

LOUDFEST 2015 has been announced as a FREE ALL AGES show in Sydney on Sunday November 22 at The Lair. The event will include a host of Australia’s best upcoming heavy bands including Hellions, Stories, Endless Heights, Void Of Vision, Bare Bones and Harbours.

LOUDFEST was launched in 2011, as a Sydney based All Ages event focused on lineups full of young and excited bands from the metal and hardcore world. It has become a main stay of the Sydney scene, and has helped launch the careers of artists like Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Buried In Verona, Dream On Dreamer, Confession, House Vs Hurricane, Saviour and many more. In 2013, LOUDFEST brought in over 1500 fans across Sydney and Melbourne.

The 2015 incarnation of the event will see it return as a completely free, Sydney-based event, tied in to ARIA Week in support and celebration of the “Best Hard Rock” award at the ARIAs. The event is supported and run as a joint venture between The Virtue Agency, UNFD and Maniacs, with a focus on continuing the ever growing exposure of heavy music to mainstream audiences.

Loud Fest 2015 is a FREE all ages event held at The Lair (Metro Theatre) in Sydney. The room has a limited capacity and people will gain entry in a first-come, first-served basis — there will be no tickets for sale. For more information on LOUDFEST 2015 click here.

Sydney’s Hellions have had an impressive year. Their sophomore album, Indian Summer, debuted at #19 on the ARIA chart and the boys have been doing laps of Australia and the rest of the world ever since. Currently on tour in Europe, supporting label mates Northlane, LOUDFEST will be Hellion’s first show back in the country and it will be as crazy as the live show they've built their reputation on.

Stories have had a stellar 2015 thus far. In August, the Sydney crew released their incredible album, The Youth To Become, via UNFD and earned themselves a top 50 ARIA chart debut and worldwide acclaim. Stories set out to rewrite the rules of heavy music and in turn have crafted a stunning album that has seen the young band conquer the heavy music world and cement their reputation as an incredible live band, as witnessed at Unify Gathering and the regional Badlands tour with In Hearts Wake.

Sydney post-hardcore act Endless Heights released their Teach You How To Leave EP during August in the midst of their virgin European tour with Australian punk stalwarts Break Even. It was the culmination of a long road of touring at home and abroad with artists like Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Superheaven and Basement with constant writing and rehearsal amid live engagements.

Formed in 2013, Melbourne's Void of Vision immediately got to work, releasing a bunch of ear-belting singles and heading out on multiple national tours with Buried in Verona, Hellions, Ocean Grove and Hand of Mercy just to name a few. Renowned for their high energy and erratic live shows, Void of Vision have become a major force in the Australian heavy music scene and LOUDFEST 15 is your chance to see why.

Sydney’s Bare Bones are a name you’ve no doubt stumbled upon. With two EPs to their name, Bare Bones have warmed the stages for major acts like Northlane, Every Time I Die, Harms Way, Heights, Senses Fail, For Today as well as an opening slot on this year’s Soundwave Festival. Drawing influences from the likes of The Bronx, Pantera and everything in between, Bare Bones have crafted a unique punk-rock-hardcore hybrid that has established them as a band to watch in 2015.

Harbours is a fresh alternative rock band hailing from Melbourne. Earning their stripes in the thriving hardcore/punk scene, Harbours new material sees the hand reach for a darker, more emotive direction – honing in on grunge, emo and shoegaze influences. In their short time together, Harbours have supported international heavyweights such as Neck Deep, State Champs and Silverstein and now the band with bring their unique take on modern rock to LOUDFEST 2015.

Last month the Australian music industry was devastated by the tragic death of

well-known and much loved production manager, Shane Cooper, and the serious injury of drummer Mick Skelton, in a car accident while on their way to a gig in regional Victoria.

Since the accident, hundreds of musicians and friends have put their hands up to help out in the best way they know how - with an all-star benefit concert featuring the who’s who of Aussie rock for Mick and Shane’s families.

The One For The Road concert will be held at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Monday, 23 November 2015.

Performers confirmed are (in alphabetical order):

1927, Baby Animals, Diesel with special guest Jimmy Barnes, Dragon, Doug Parkinson, Mark Gable (Choirboys), Hoodoo Gurus, Noiseworks, Jeff Martin (The Tea Party), Steve Kilbey (from The Church), Wendy Matthews, Russell Morris, Ian Moss with Andy Bickers, Angry Anderson, Alex Smith (Moving Pictures), The Superjesus, Swanee + Jagger Alexander-Erber, Thirsty Merc and Ziggy (the Bowie Show) featuring Steve Balbi, Brydon Stace + Jeff Duff

Mick Skelton, who has now been released from hospital and is recuperating at home, has the following message:

"I'm incredibly grateful to everyone for the love and support that's been shown since the tragic accident in September.  Of course, all our hearts and thoughts are, and will always be, with Shane's wife Olivia, their beautiful children and the entire Cooper family.

Since being told of the benefit concert, not a day has gone by that I haven't felt overwhelmed and so very humbled. I am so proud to be surrounded by people with such love and support for Shane's family and for my family and myself. It says so much about everyone, from the people putting this together, to the absolutely stellar line up. It's just incredible and words can't describe what the night is going to be like. Even though there is still a long road of recovery left, my spirits remain high and I find comfort in the knowledge that I'll soon be back behind the drums again, playing the music I love, with the people I love.

To everyone, thank you SO much, inspiration is what can get us thru anything, and I'm not only incredibly driven to get up and get back out there, but I'm so very, very inspired.  All my love, Mick xx”

One for the Road’s promoter, Marc Christowski from Empire Touring, said, “Shane Cooper was an integral part of my organisation and Mick Skelton is my go-to drummer. It's not often this sort of tragedy strikes and I'm proud to say that we have been inundated with artists and crew offering their services to produce this extraordinary benefit concert. It’s going to be one hell of a show, packed with all the biggest hits, a huge production and some very special surprises.”

One for the Road is proudly presented by Support Act and produced by Empire Touring.

All concert proceeds will go to the Cooper and Skelton families.
