New Invention Lights Up Your Bag: Blind Digging Days Banished

Announcement posted by The Audacious Agency 17 Nov 2015

Imagine you are alone in a gloomy carpark, hunting through your bag for your car keys. Every shadow looks like a person. It does not matter how many times you dig around, you just can’t find them.

These feelings of fear and vulnerability drove Marcia Mattushek to invent a product that will help women (or men) find items in their bag quickly and easily.

Marcia is the inventor of Bagsablaze, a light for a handbag.

“It is just like a fridge light for your bag.  You open the bag and the light comes on, making it so much easier to find keys, phones or your lippy,” she said.

“I came up with the idea after leaving a function. Here I was, a woman on her own, in a deserted car park, with very little light and no one around. I just wanted to get out of there but I could not find my keys - it was so dark. I felt unsafe and vulnerable.”

Remembering those feelings the next day, Marcia went to Google to find a solution to her problem. “I asked Mr Google to help me find something that would light up my bag so I could find what I needed when I needed it...especially at night,” she said.

“I thought there had to be something out there...it was such a simple idea.  But there was nothing.”

Of course, most of us have our mobile phones that have torch apps but what if you phone is in your bag?

“Yes, I have my phone light….and yes, there are many different types of torches out there but they are hard to find without the light to start with and you have to dig around in your bag to find it.  I wanted something that would automatically turn on when I opened my bag. That’s when Bagsablaze was born,” Marcia said.

Bagsablaze will be officially launched next year during a Kickstarter campaign. Marcia is confident other women will love the idea as much as she does.

“Every time I describe Bagsablaze to someone, their immediate response is ‘ohhhhhh, what a great idea,’” she said.

“The light sits on the inside of your bag or bags - what women only has one bag?

“A powerful magnet holds the bag closed and keeps the light off. It contains LED lights and when you open your bag, the lights automatically come on allowing you to see all of your stuff. They turn off automatically after a set time, ensuring the battery won’t run flat and the light will be ready to turn on again when you next open your bag.”

Marcia said the Bagsablaze light is removable and interchangeable between bags. “It can be used for a manbag, handbag, baby bag or briefcase – pretty much any bag out there,” she said.

“The Kickstarter campaign will launched on January 16 at www.bagsablaze.com.”
