Vibes Releases Second Wave of Stellar Acts Ahead of January all-dayer

Promoters announce original London rude boy & DnB pioneer, Spikey Tee, multi-award winning serial collaborist, Katalyst and B-Boy Championship resident & Glastonbury regular DJ Hudge to the Vibes line-up.
Sydney, November 15th, 2015 - Following last month’s announcement that Jazzie B, Kylie Auldist and Faze Action will all headline January’s Vibes on a Summer’s Day all-dayer at Bondi Pavillion, further acts have been released today.
In addition to Spikey Tee, Katalyst, & DJ Hudge, the eclectic offering of performers representing the genres of funk, soul, hip hop, house, techno and drum n bass includes four of the most influential originators of the Australian party scene, the classiest selectors in the country, flying in from all corners of the country, DJs Sugar Ray, Phil Smart, Simon Caldwell and Crucial D.
Funkdafied and 45 Sessions supremo JC was also announced today, complementing a line-up that promoters already confirmed in October would also include DJ Packer, Beat Spacek & the UK’s godfather of all things groovy, Russ Dewbury. Further announcements will be made in due course.
Vibes on a Summer’s Day returns after 13-years, on January 24th 2016. The event will take place at the all-dayer’s spiritual home, the iconic Bondi Pavilion.
Spikey Tee – “One of London’s original ‘rude boys.’”
Spinning tunes for over 20-years, Spikey rejoins the Vibes family after his last set back in 2003. Currently recording his latest album in Berlin, he’s taking some time out to make his grand return to Bondi. As a pioneer of the UK Hip Hop he's been recording and DJing for over 20 years, watching Drum n Bass grow from humble beginnings on pirate radio, to the worldwide phenomenon it is today.It’s in his blood; he is related to Bunny Wailer. He was first involved with reggae soundsystems from the age of 13 acting as a guest selector when he joined hip hop pioneers, The Sindecut.
Spikey was soon to join Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart and was lead vocalist for five years. All the while continually redefining hip-hop, R&B, ragga, and drum'n' bass.
Spikey made hit tunes for numerous producers, most notably with the hit Dark Heart for Bomb The Bass. After a chance meeting with Mr Scruff he teamed up with the Manchester hip-hop label Grand Central for a number of tours & collaborations, including Scruff, Horace Andy, Morcheeba and Mark Rae.
His output is nothing short of prolific. He is now back in the studio recording his new album in Berlin on a drum 'n' bass tip.
DJ Hudge – “A slalwart of the London hip hop scene for 20 years.”
Founder of Boom Bap and Take it 2 the Bridge and a regular at Glastonbury, Ibiza Rocks & Notting Hill Carnival, Hudge has supported Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Corrine Bailey Rae and Dirty Sanchez, to name a few. He held the residency at the B-Boy Championships in the UK from 1998 – 2003.
Since moving to NZ in 2012, Hudge continues playing with local and Australian party crews and with T Rice, presents one of the most successful weekend radio shows on NZ national radio station, George FM.
Katalyst – “Lauded for his collective mind set, his wrap sheet’s a who’s who of music.”
Fresh from the release of Detorit’s Son with MC Guilty Simpson, which has been meet with critical acclaim internationally and hailed by some as his best album yet, Katalyst has been producing since the early1990s. Although releasing tracks as Moonrock on the infamous Café Del Mar and Dope On Plastic series, his debut album as Katalyst, Agent Manipulated didn’t land until 2002 and was met with instant acclaim, securing an ARIA nomination, whilst securing ‘Best Producer’ and ‘Best Album’ at the 2002 Australian DMA’s.

From Burning Man to Splendour in the Grass, Phil Smart has become synonymous with some of the greatest festivals and parties around the world. Named in DJ Mag’s Top 100 twice, in 2015 ‘Squirt’ was listed as one of the 100 Greatest Australian Dance Tracks of All Time.
Phil turned his impeccable ear to production in the mid-90s and now owns record label, Junkbeats. Having commanded a passionate following in Sydney, Phil’s presence at Vibes 2016 will be a massive draw for dance fans throughout the ages.
Dave Carnovale – “He knows how to read a crowd and keep them there; a skill that doesn’t come pre-packaged in a software program.”
DJ extraordinaire for over 20 years, he now produces as ‘Dubnosis’ and calls Byron Bay home. Known as the man who wears a thousand hats, Dave was a co-founder of Wicked Beat Sound System, a Vibes regular which released five albums, seven singles, 22 remixes and secured 3 ARIA nominations and a win.
Dave has had long-term residencies at high-profile venues such as The Chinese Laundry, Establishment, Hilton Zeta Bar, Opera Bar, Longrain and Soho Bar.
His DJ’ing style is truly broad, taking in all forms of music.

Voted the number one Nu Disco/Indie Dance artists of 2014 by Traxsource, Faze Action spearheaded the first disco revival and has released four critically acclaimed studio albums. Responsible for the popularising remixes of legends like Femi Kuti, Francois Kevorkian, Odyssey, Metronomy & Saint Etienne, Faze Action has been a staple of many A-List DJ sets over the years. Major proponents and fans include: Andy Weatherall, DJ Harvey, Jarvis Cocker, Gilles Peterson and the infamous Horsemeat Disco.

A part of the international music scene for over 30 years, Russ Dewbury is a DJ, live music promoter, record compiler, radio broadcaster & producer, and peerless aficionado. Dewbury’s unique DJ blend spans the whole “Black Music” spectrum from Funk and Soul to Electro Jazz, D&B and Tropical Beats. Dewbury ran the longest running club session in the world – the Brighton Jazz Rooms – from 1987 until 2013 and persuaded Chicago Soul singer, Terry Callier to come out of retirement before going on to manage him. He gained a UK Top 20 hit when he convinced old friend, Norman Cook/Fatboy Slim to remix Jean Jacques Perry’s cult hit ‘EVA’.
