(Canberra, 1 December 2015) Australian Forest Growers have welcomed the appointment of Senator the Hon Anne Ruston as Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources with responsibility for Forestry.

Kevin Harding, President of AFG  said, ‘I look forward to working with Senator Ruston to promote our view that growing and managing trees on private land for timber and other commercial purposes comes with a broad range of economic, environmental and social benefits.

Senator for South Australia Anne Ruston, chaired the inquiry into the Water Amendment Bill 2015 and has a strong background representing regional Australia, and particularly South Australia with its 20 000 forest industry related jobs.

Kevin said, ‘Private forestry growers call many parts of the country home but Senator Ruston’s deep understanding of the economic, social and environmental issues in South Australia bodes well for her support of a sustainable bio-economy incorporating a broad range of renewable forest products’.
