Announcement posted by SMC Networks 15 Nov 2001

Enhanced 802.11a-Compliant EZ Connect Wireless Access Point and CardBus Adapter Enable a Turbo Data Rate of Up To 72Mbps
Promising to increase the efficiency, productivity and mobility of users of business and home networks, SMC Networks, a leading provider of wired and wireless networking solutions for the residential, small office/home office (SOHO) and small/medium business (SMB) markets, today announced the launch of its EZ Connect 802.11a Wireless Access Point (SMC2755W) and 802.11a Wireless CardBus Adapter (SMC2735W).

SMCs new 802.11a-compliant wireless networking solutions offer transmission speeds of up to 54Mbps in standard mode and 72Mbps in Turbo Mode. By utilizing the 5Ghz frequency range with 8 non-overlapping channels, the EZ Connect 802.11a wireless products offer seamless coexistence with Bluetooth, microwave, cordless phones and currently installed 802.11b wireless solutions.

The increasing bandwidth requirements of todays video, audio and data applications threaten to strain the capabilities of earlier wireless networking technologies, explained Philip Teo, Product Marketing Manager, AP of SMC. Our next-generation EZ Connect 802.11a products provide a high-performance, robust, easy-to-implement wireless networking solution that is fast enough to replace even a wired network for many of these applications.

In addition to the ease of implementation provided by the EZ Connects Plug-and-Play configuration and Web-based management interface, the EZ Connect 802.11a Wireless Access Point (SMC2755W) supports up to 64 simultaneous wireless clients and provides enhanced security features including 64-bit, 128-bit and 152-bit WEP encryption, and MAC address filtering.

The EZ Connect 802.11a Wireless CardBus Adapter (SMC2735W) instantly connects the client computer to the wired network backbone at data transfer speeds of up to 72Mbps with automatic fallback to 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 54, and 72Mbps.

Backed by a limited lifetime warranty, SMC's wireless LAN solutions will be available December 2001 via authorized SMC Channels and to strategic accounts around the world. The estimated street price for the Wireless Access Point (SMC2755W) is US$365.00 and the Wireless CardBus Adapter (SMC2735W) is US$145.00.
