Beca supports Gold Coast Airport with major redevelopment

Beca is pleased to be working alongside Gold Coast Airport on their $200M transformation, which will make room for aerobridges and more large aircraft in the lead up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta is the sixth busiest international airport in Australia and is experiencing significant growth. The redevelopment will be a bonus for travellers because it will provide a faster, more efficient service and capacity for more than 5.8 million passengers per year. It is essential that the Airport's capacity and infrastructure is enhanced to allow it to meet future domestic and international passenger demand.

Beca was awarded the civil design package earlier this year. This covers operational layout planning, airside pavements, airside and landside road pavements, drainage infrastructure, drainage reserve diversion, airfield ground lighting, apron floodlighting, and movement area guidance signage.

Beca is currently working closely with the Gold Coast Airport projects team to allow for construction of Stage One to kick off early next year; this will support the Airport in its efforts to be ready in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. This includes two new wide-bodied aircraft bays and a new three-level terminal building at the airport's southern end, which will accommodate four aerobridges. The second stage is due to be completed by 2021.
