Odgers Berndtson launches Financial Services practice in Australia

Odgers Berndtson, the global executive search firm, continues to grow its operations in the Asia Pacific region through the launch of a dedicated Financial Services practice that will work with clients to attract, engage and recruit industry leading talent across the region.

“We are excited to announce the launch of our Financial Services practice with the appointment of two of the industry’s most experienced search consultants, said Julie Steiner, Managing Director, Odgers Berndtson, Australia.

“In the last two years, of the 26 Financial Services organisations (including REITs) listed on the ASX 100, 8 have experienced a CEO succession event but interestingly, 6 of the 8 were internal appointments. More pertinently, 6 of 8 of these appointments brought international experience to the role as increasingly Boards are looking to their senior executive talent to supplement local knowledge with genuine international experience. The Odgers Berndtson global platform is ideally placed to work with clients across the sector in managing succession and the broader senior talent agenda,” added Steiner.

Mark Braithwaite, Managing Director, Odgers Berndtson, Asia Pacific commented “The Australian Financial Services sector is a significant contributor to the financial services market globally. As such, it is a great attractor of leading global talent as the environment nurtures and develops leaders who are then easily exported into the largest financial centres in the world. Linking into colleagues around the world, the Odgers Berndtson Australian Financial Services team will actively participate in the global mobility of outstanding talent”.

Led by Odgers Berndtson Partners Lynn Muirhead and Jules Orpin, the new practice will operate across Australia but will form a key component of the global financial services practice.

Lynn Muirhead brings significant international experience in Asset and Wealth Management, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Private Equity to the practice. She has worked across multiple geographies and managed a diverse range of global assignments for leading asset management and real estate firms. Lynn also consults on senior talent management strategies with a focus on leadership succession and diversity issues.

Jules Orpin has a wealth of experience and knowledge having worked for over 25 years in executive search and consulting across a broad spectrum of Financial Services. Jules is well regarded as a search partner having run the global banking and markets practice of a multi-national executive search firm based in Sydney and marries his local relationships with strong global access to both client and candidate networks.

The partners will be supported by Research Associate, Melanie Hughes, who has worked internationally and brings a rigorous approach to analysing and researching markets.
