Melbourne Hosts Largest Festival Outside Poland

Polish Media are heralding PolArt 2015 Melbourne as “The world’s largest festival organised by the Polish diaspora” and it starts Sunday 27 December 2015 at Federation Square.

For eight days the centre of Melbourne will come alive with over 1,100 performers from overseas, interstate and locally coming to share over 120 events.

Melbourne will be awash with all things Polish, from food, music, exhibitions, visual art, and theatre through to folkloric dancing. As a result of the extensive Polish community fund raising effort, over 90% of the events being held are free to the public.

The Festival opens on Sunday 27 December with a party at Federation Square.

An Evening with Madga Szubanski Monday 28 December Melbourne Town Hall from 7.00 pm.


Grab the kids, come play and explore at the free Children’s Day at Deacon Edge, Tuesday 29 December from 11 am to 3.30 pm.


Music at the Edge – Another free event at Deacon Edge, 27 – 30 December & 2 January, more than 150 performers over five days of music from all genres.


Direct from Poland, Anna Maria Jopek, one of the most charismatic and original voices in European music, Friday 1 Jan


A treat for the classical enthusiast, the once in a lifetime Paderewski Concert, Saturday 2 January, where four pianist, one Steinway replicate a concert that was held in the Melbourne Town Hall venue in 1904.


A world class variety event, the Gala Music Concert heralds the Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra’s premier performance at Hamer Hall on Sunday 3 January.


The high voltage energy of Polish folkloric dances is brought alive on Sun 3 January where 15 groups from Australia and New Zealand join as one at the Folkloric Gala.


Exhibitions at Melbourne Town Hall highlighting Polish history within Australia from Sunday 27 December through to Sunday 3 January.


Literature at Melbourne Town Hall features talented writers, poets and artists gathering in Melbourne to celebrate the written word and Polish Heritage.


Theatre at Fairfax Studio – eight performances over the week featuring the premier of “Roza” featuring Marta Kaczmarek. “Jeremiah's Tuesday” has received amazing reviews at this year’s international Solo Theatre Festival in New York.

Visual Arts include exhibitions in several galleries around Melbourne including
Victorian Artists’ Society Gallery, Steps Gallery, No Vacancy Project Space at the Atrium Federation Square, No Vacancy Gallery QV and Melbourne Town Hall. Check out the Polish Indigenous Collaboration
