Delighted with his win, Moussilmani says “I’m proud to win such a prestigious event and it’s a good start to the year for me and gives me a lot of confidence. I love windsurfing in WA, one of my favourite places in the world… the wind was a bit up and down which made it a bit hard but such a great race, I love the format and I just wish there were more races like this.”
Moussilmani is the 31st winner of the marathon in the event’s history and adds this to his already impressive career achievements – he’s currently ranked the 2015 8th overall PWA Slalom in the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) World Tour
Racing simultaneously to the kitesurfers also competing in a 25km marathon, Cyril said “It’s also good to race with the kites, something we don’t usually get to do” – the decision by organisers to run the events parallel to one another made for the biggest start and finishing lines in the event’s history.
The first female to cross the finish line of the Windsurfing Marathon, Karin Jaggi – the female world windsurfing record holder having smashed the previous record in November last year with a staggering 46.31 knots. Jaggi competed in the marathon with her partner, Patrik Diethelm who placed 4th in the Men’s Windsurfing Marathon.
Also taking top spot on the podium is kitesurfing favourite Olly Bridge from the UK, who claimed first place in the Kitesurfing Marathon.
