Want to fill the CBD with active shops? I'll show you how. Background: It often cost more to rent a shop in Maryborough than in Hervey Bay or Gympie. The reason is that many of the CBD properties are owned by absentee owners who have little incentive to fix up their shops or fill with tenants at a reasonable price.

I would have any empty shops in the CBD charged a large marketing levee for any time the shop is empty. They would soon have someone opening a business in their shop. Any money gained from the charges would be used to market the CBD. This is a no cost option which would have a huge impact. Think about what we could achieve if we start using grass-roots solutions to our problems rather than top-down ego trip projects.
