Integrated Research announces major upgrade to PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Manager

Announcement posted by Integrated Research 29 Oct 2002

Version 7.07 of industry-leading management software for Cisco CallManager to ship with real-time performance, diagnostics, trouble-shooting and Web interface enhancements
Integrated Research Ltd. (ASX:IRI) (IR), the leading developer of real-time systems and application management products for high-availability computing environments, today unveiled PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Manager version 7.07 of its management software for Cisco CallManager call processing software.

Scheduled for release in late December this year, IP Telephony Manager 7.07 includes major feature enhancements for Cisco CallManager that create an integrated, productive solution for rapidly implementing, troubleshooting and optimizing Voice over IP (VoIP) deployments to maximise availability and performance.

Cisco CallManager is the software-based call-processing component of the Cisco enterprise IP Communications solution and is a product enabled by Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data). Cisco CallManager software extends enterprise telephony features and capabilities to packet telephony network devices such as IP phones, media processing devices, voice-over-IP (VoIP) gateways, and multimedia applications.

IR also introduced IP Telephony Assessor, a new system diagnostic tool that can be bundled with IP Telephony Manager 7.07. IP Telephony Assessor assists companies in determining their networks capacity to handle an IP telephony installation or expansion. Also included is a unique Web-based graphical user interface and support for the SCCP, MCGP and H.323 protocols.

IP Telephony Manager 7.07 makes comprehensive real-time VoIP troubleshooting, optimisation, performance and event management a reality, and is easier to implement than ever before, says IRs chief product architect for IP Telephony Manager, Graham Jones.

Not only does version 7.07 provide sub-second monitoring support for the major VoIP protocols but also extends this support to provide real-time quality of service (QoS) feedback such as Mean Opinion Score (MOS) on a per-second basis, even for calls still in progress, he adds.

Companies can now monitor how their IP telephony networks are performing in real-time, with a sub-second view on the levels of service their customers are experiencing. Management decisions can therefore be made based on actual network conditions, with any problems dealt with quickly before they degrade call performance or quality in any way.

Jones says many companies claim to offer real-time VoIP management, but on closer examination their products use the traditional agent-polling architecture that introduces a delay of at least five minutes between data collection points and often longer.

IP Telephony Manager 7.07 collects and processes information in real-time. Compared to delayed-time products, this means companies now have a per-second, per-call view of their IP telephony networks and can make critical decisions faster to improve the level of service and availability for their customers.

The bundling of IRs new IP Telephony Assessor with IP Telephony Manager 7.07 (IP Telephony Assessor is also available as a standalone purchase) makes it easy and cost-effective for companies to plan their IP telephony rollouts, and to gauge the scalability of their networks for future IP telephony services.

IP Telephony Manager 7.07 also includes the Web-based interface first released in PROGNOSIS 7.06, which allows a customer to manage the IP telephony network from any browser, anywhere.

The Web interface comes standard with the product at no extra cost; you setup as many Web servers and browser users as you need to monitor the environment and view reports, says Jones.

Managed service providers (MSPs) in particular will find this useful when monitoring customers from different geographical locations.

MSPs get full control over their customers networks through the IP Telephony Manager Windows GUI console. In addition MSPs have the option of giving their customers an at-a-glance view of their own networks so that they can track service levels independently, providing an extra level of product for their customers to differentiate themselves.

Other features designed to simplify the installation and maintenance of IP Telephony Manager, such as an unattended install option and automated documentation, join a list of across-the-board enhancements including:

Mean Opinion Score (MOS) support MOS is an industry-standard measure of the quality of human speech. IP Telephony Manager 7.07 provides MOS metrics out of the box on a per call, per second basis.

Advanced Application Management for Cisco Customer Response applications IP Telephony Manager 7.07 has built-in support for these specific Cisco answering-service applications, offering further benefits to customers who rely on them.

Support for more devices - Monitors and diagnoses a wider range of key devices within Cisco AVVID, including gatekeeper, locations, MTP devices, transcode devices and hardware and software conference bridges.

Simphone enhancements - Provides the ability to make external calls that check for gateway availability. Simphone ensures that when changes are made to the network administrators are alerted immediately if a particular route pattern no longer works or a gateway is out.

Management across complex firewall topologies - IP Telephony Manager 7.07 can be more easily deployed and maintained in infrastructures comprising multiple geographical locations or domains separated by more than one firewall (De-militarised Zones).

More Thresholds out of the box - Based on customer feedback, IP Telephony Manager 7.07 ships with over 100 new pre-tailored thresholds out of the box. The cost of post-purchase customisation is lower than any other product on the market.
