Home Renovation Expert Warns: “Don’t Forget the Insulation.”

Home renovation expert in Perth reveals why insulation is a vital and important part of any home renovation or new build.
Perth, WA, 22 February 2016 - According to a home renovation expert in Perth, insulation is extremely important for any home renovation project, but is ignored by most DIY-ers and builders. According to Max Sardi, award-winning home improvement designer:

“It is crucial to properly insulate any home, but more and more builders, professional and amateur, are skipping it to save time and money. While this may look good in the short term, they are losing much more money in the long term due to inefficient heating and cooling.”

Why Insulation is Skipped Over by Amateur and Professional Builders

For the amateur or DIY builder, it takes more time and more money to insulate a project. Sometimes just the physical appearance of insulation can cause it to be underrated in its importance and performance. It is easy for the DIY builder to skip it and say, “I’ll add it later if I need to.” This, of course, is not going to happen. Nobody is going to tear down walls they built to add insulation.

Another reason DIY-ers can think it isn’t important to insulate is because most of the home improvement TV shows demonstrate how to do everything else, but never seem to cover insulating a home or the importance of using insulation.

Professional builders often skip insulation for many of the same reasons, but the main consideration is the “bottom line.” It saves material and labour costs to skip the insulation. Most customers never call them on it. When looking at a finished product, most home buyers or homeowners don’t even think to ask about insulation.

Ergo, professional builders save money and project time by skipping the insulation and the customer is none the wiser.

Why Consumers Aren’t Aware of the Importance of Insulation

Many consumers aren’t aware of the importance of insulation because of the perception that insulation is only important in cold areas. Since most of Australia doesn’t get very cold, it isn’t “on the radar” of the average consumer.

Also, as mentioned above, home improvement TV shows don’t often mention insulation. In addition, those who are aware often think that the materials of their homes, such as bricks, timber or e-glass, are sufficient to insulate their homes.

Why Insulation is Important

Insulation is important, regardless of the materials used in building or the presence of cold weather. It is important because of the principle of heat transfer. Heat moves or transfers from hot areas to areas that are cooler. When it is hot outside, the heat transfers into a home. When it is cold outside, the heat transfers out of a home.

Insulation helps prevent and mitigate heat transfer. It makes heating and cooling more efficient in any climate. It keeps heat from leaving when it is cold outside and keeps heat from entering when it is hot outside.

According to Mr Sardi: “Skipping insulation can save money short-term, but it costs a lot more in the long-term.”
