BRISBANE ROAR GAME INSPIRES PLAYERS WITH DISABILITY

Announcement posted by Multicap 25 Feb 2016

Avegates is offering people with disability the ultimate soccer fan experience, with an upcoming trip to the A-league match of Brisbane Roar taking on Western Syndey Wanderers.

To kick off the new year, Avegates has made it possible for their All Ways Access Football players with a disability to attend the game at Suncorp Stadium on the 4 March.

Avegates Coordinator, Nick Martin said “Our All Ways Access Football program is about building skills and celebrating the game of soccer in an encouraging team environment.”

“One of the best things about sport is that it breaks down a lot of barriers,” said Mr Martin.

Mr Martin said “Our aspiring soccer fans will join thousands of other screaming supporters at the Brisbane Roar game next week.”

With support from Sunnybank Community and Sports Club, Avegates is now giving more people the opportunity to access team sports, be trained by an expert coach and to make new friends.

The Avegates football program stems from the determination to make it possible for people of any ability to be involved with sport.

Mr Martin said “Participating in sport is more than just a feel-good exercise, it has also been responsible for dramatic improvements in mobility and motivation.”

All Ways Access Football support worker Jeremy Seng said “We know there are going to be people all over Brisbane who have always wanted the opportunity to pull on a team jersey and run on the field.”

“We want them to know it doesn’t matter what sort of disability they have, if you want to play – you can,” said Mr Seng.

Avegates program philosophy is to engage athletes and their families in all aspects of football and encourage support for their local and national team.

Anyone interested in joining the team can contact Nick Martin at Avegates on 07 33409012.
