CommSecure expands in NSW and Qld to serve 4 million residents across 21 local councils

Announcement posted by CommSecure 17 Aug 2004

CommSecure Limited (ASX:CMS), a leading provider of electronic commerce solutions, has implemented solutions at eight new local government customers in New South Wales and Queensland.
CommSecure now serves councils across Australia covering a total population of more than 4 million people. These range from Australia?s largest council, Brisbane City Council with 1.6 million residents, to centres such as Cootamundra and Leeton with less than 15,000 people each.
CommSecure is currently implementing its services at Berrigan, Byron Bay, Cabonne, Cootamundra, Great Lakes, Ryde and Sutherland local councils in NSW, and Cairns in Queensland. It has also signed deals with five more councils in NSW and Queensland.
Fully developed in Australia, CommSecure?s integrated suite of e-commerce solutions enable organisations to use the Internet to accept credit card or other payments, and to distribute bills to customers. It also offers interactive voice response (IVR) services and direct debit request form management solutions.
Councils have typically purchased CommSecure?s PaySecure and IVRSecure products so that they can accept payments via their websites, by telephone or via residents? online banking services. Since the recent Reserve Bank initiated changes to the credit card interchange regime, many major Australian companies have introduced credit card surcharges. CommSecure?s e-payment solutions allow councils to implement a surcharge for credit card payments, with the level of surcharge selectable for each credit card type.
Several councils have implemented CommSecure?s BillSecure product to further save costs by distributing rate notices and other bills electronically. Some are also using DDRSecure for the management and storage of direct debit request forms.
In September 2003, CommSecure was selected by the Local Government Association of NSW and the Shires Association of NSW to supply electronic payment systems to member councils. The company has since presented its solutions to many of the 154 metropolitan and rural councils that belong to the bodies.
CommSecure has also been actively growing its local government business in Queensland and Victoria. Each new contract builds CommSecure?s revenues through set up and consulting fees and an ongoing share of transactions.
?CommSecure is delighted with the success of its electronic commerce solutions in the local government sector. We believe that our products are proving popular with councils because they represent a low-cost, low-risk way to get into e-commerce and because we are happy to customise our solutions to meet each organisation?s requirements,? said Mr Ray Loyzaga, CommSecure Managing Director.
