Crowd funding project launched to accelerate ocean solutions

Announcement posted by Ocean Nourishment Corporation 30 May 2016

Climate change

An Australian company is using crowd funding to raise $70,000 to
design an innovative nutrient dispersion system and accelerate its
efforts to combat climate change. Ocean Nourishment Corporation
(ONC), based in Sydney, has pioneered ocean-based techniques that can
help to remove carbon from the atmosphere without causing other
impacts on the environment.

Stretching 300m either side of a research vessel, the nutrient dispersion
system forms an integral component of their carbon dioxide removal
technology. ONC will build a one-fifth prototype and test this at sea off
the coast of NSW. The company aims to complete the prototype testing
before the end of 2016.

Dr. Martin Lawrence of ONC said, “This proprietary technology can be
utilised in ecosystem restoration programs aimed at carbon
sequestration, the mitigation of ocean acidification impacts on coral
reefs and efforts to support or enhance wild fisheries”.

Mr. John Ridley ONC Managing Director said, “The time is upon us to
wisely use carefully selected areas of the ocean to help mitigate the
global problem of rising temperatures and ocean acidification.”
