EMC wins NAS deal with McPherson's Printing Group

Announcement posted by EMC 25 Jul 2003

EMC Corporation has reaffirmed its leadership position in the mid-range enterprise storage market by winning a one terabyte deal with McPherson's Printing Group in a competitive tender against top-tier storage brands.
EMC's Celerra(tm) NS600 solution outperformed its peers during a rigorous testing process, delivering on McPherson's Printing groups' three core selection criteria: a high level of redundancy, high percentage of uptime and the provision of a central repository.
McPherson's Printing Group, based in Victoria, is one of Australia's major commercial printing companies, producing a range of products including books, commercial manuals and greeting cards. It has a digital print facility requiring a very high level of reliability and data input, making it reliant on a storage system with impressive redundancy and throughput. The ability of EMC's NS600 to deliver this functionality won EMC the deal.
Brett Tyers, IT business analyst /programmer, McPherson's Digital Printing Group said, "EMC proved they could deliver and support a NAS solution that would meet our intense data and traffic requirements on an ongoing basis. There was only a limited number of solutions that come close to meeting our expectations and of these, EMC was the clear winner.
"McPherson's Printing Group runs an operation with stringent service obligations attached. Downtime not only inhibits production but also incurs a fiscal penalty. We are confident EMC's NS600 will cope with the data requirements that our server-based legacy system couldn't - contributing to the overall efficiency and smooth operation of our business," Tyers added.
Steve Redman, managing director, EMC Australia and New Zealand said, "This win, under highly competitive circumstances, proves that EMC offers the best in breed technology in the NAS market. NAS is a growth area for EMC and McPherson's confidence in both our products and EMC's ability to support its customers, represents a great future for us in this space.
". With EMC's NS600 NAS system, McPherson's storage solution can now deliver greater performance, integrated high availability and control of its growing information infrastructure at a reasonable cost to the business," Redman said.
