Giving people with a cause a voice

Pat Armitstead has won a place on the new TV program “The Point TV” after a rigorous 8 week intensive training and auditioning process .  One of 14 finalists, she was selected by peer review to be a representative in the inaugural launch of the program when it goes to air on Aurora Foxtel.  The 4 winners were announced at a celebratory dinner this week with an exclusive preview screening of the final 30 minute episode.

Gerald Pauschmann the shows  producer who led the pilot, guided  participants with the single focus of using new skills to present authentically.  He says “ I could not believe the level of transformation and confidence developed by everybody! WOW, trying to come down from this amazing high. All I can say is that I am blessed to have 14 amazing people who have grown more than I had expected! “

Pat, an Australian who has been living in New Zealand for 17 years, and only back 6 months,  says she was delighted to receive this acknowledgement!  Her interview was with Di Riddell the author of the book Beyond Abuse which  recounts her story of abuse and the terror of her younger years.

Pat says “  Taking one aspect of Di’s huge story and then weaving it together was a wonderful and intimate experience. To share at this level the vulnerability of another in a public arena is a privilege and requires great presence and listening skills. To share this vulnerability in front of cameras and to a live audience is not for the faint hearted .. but there was a bigger picture.  Di and I had both been victims of violence, and so there was a natural empathy for her circumstances.  And that’s what I wanted to be happening for the viewer… an intimate encounter and a glimpse into someone elses life, which might have been just like their own!”

Each finalist had a 7 minute segment and their topics were varied, creating a diverse program.  The three other winners were Louise Elliott- Kids Get Healthy, Meg Solly – She Skills, and Jeff Gough – Cognitive Specialist.

Initially a NSW Registered Nurse Pat worked for 16 years in Education and Management roles and was part of the group of nurses in NSW that took nurse education out of hospital based training and into Universities.

In 1989 she founded her own Advertising Agency, Take One Productions and won many awards including the NSW Northwards Tourism Award, Media Section and an award from Cacharel in Paris.  She has presented over 11,000 hours of keynotes, workshops, seminars and lectures reaching an astounding 55,000 people throughout Australasia.  She was President of the National Speakers Association NZ 2001, The Most Awarded Speaker at the 2000 NSANZ Convention and 2002 NZ Speaker of the Year.   She has convened two International Conventions for the National Speakers Association of New Zealand and has toured internationally with  Dr Patch Adams.  ( She has also reared a wombat! )

She was the worlds first Joyologist and says "Most people have all they need to be happy and fulfilled,  but rarely capture the excitement, the engagement or the levels of self expression they deserve to have.  Across the globe the emotional energy of the world is flatlining.  My life's work has been to improve the quality of peoples lives by bringing joy where it appears there is none, by creating a platform where people can live to their own values and contribute in extra-ordinary ways to their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of those in the workplace "
