New FileMaker Pro 8 The Easy Way to Manage and Share Information --Available Now

Announcement posted by FileMaker 14 Sep 2005

Company also ships FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced with enhancements for advanced users and unveils the new FileMaker 8 product line
FileMaker today announced the immediate availability of FileMaker Pro 8 (https://secure.filemaker.com.au/), the newest version of the most awarded desktop database, featuring new ways to work faster, share and manage information of all types, and be more productive (full details at http://www.filemaker.com.au/products/fmp/).
The new PDF Maker in FileMaker Pro 8, featuring the Adobe PDF library licensed via Datalogics allows users to convert attractive graphic-rich reports of their data into PDFs, which can be quickly emailed for sharing with non-FileMaker users. The new Excel Maker works the same effortless way. FileMaker Pro 8 users can save data as a Microsoft Excel file, and just as painlessly include it as an attachment ready to send via email.
FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced (previously FileMaker Developer), also available today, boasts many powerful new features designed to allow advanced users and developers to add greater customisation to their databases than ever before.
Today at the FileMaker Developer Conference, attended by more than 1,000 database and web developers, the company unveiled the full FileMaker 8 product line: FileMaker Pro 8, FileMaker Server 8; FileMaker Server 8 Advanced and FileMaker Mobile 8, which are planned to ship this Spring.
Because FileMaker Pro is one of the most popular databases for small businesses, FileMaker also announced the FileMaker Business Productivity Kit as part of the FileMaker Pro 8 trial download (see release below), featuring several ready-to-use solutions designed specifically for small businesses; available now for download at www.filemaker.com.au/bpk.
With FileMaker Pro 8, it is now even easier to manage and share information of all types even with non-FileMaker users, said Dominique Goupil, president of FileMaker, Inc. FileMaker 8 has set a new standard for the database market by delivering the ultimate combination of power, ease of use, and sharing. By making it easier to create, learn and use shared information solutions, FileMaker 8 will bring even more new users into the database category. Customers can now work faster and share data with more people and office applications than any other desktop database.

FileMaker Pro 8, for Windows and Mac OS X, is even easier to learn and use, and features many new capabilities to make information-sharing more prevalent.

Customers Praise FileMaker Pro 8
Early evaluator customers and developers praised the new capabilities of FileMaker Pro 8:
As FileMaker Developers were delighted well be able to offer our customers the new extended features in the FileMaker Pro 8 interface, such as Find records like this, Export to PDF and Export to Email. Were also excited by some of the new possibilities in FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced such as the extended email and print capabilities, the new scripting functions, the new Developer Tools like the Data/Expression Viewer, and enhancements to the relationship graph. Were looking forward to using the new FileMaker Pro 8 capabilities with eager enthusiasm both as Developers and for our end users.
- Murray Benn, Managing Director, Denbigh International, Administration Solutions for Education
FileMaker 8 is definitely the best FileMaker yet for both developers and users. There is something in the new feature list for everyone. Developers will enjoy the amazing tools offered in FileMaker Pro Advanced with the ability to copy tables and fields, enable and disable script steps and view script output using the data viewer. Custom menus, new field formats, a tab creation tool and tooltips provide new ways to customise the interface and streamline development. The new, fully scriptable save as PDF with all the options and send email functionality will make information sharing so much more efficient for end users. FileMaker 8 builds on the solid foundation laid down with FileMaker 7 and makes the upgrade decision an easy one.
- Andrew McAllum, Director, Niche IT.
For over 10 years we have been creating real-world solutions that push the limits of FileMaker Pro. With FileMaker Pro 8.0 those limits have been pushed a whole lot further back. FileMaker has certainly listened to developers feedback and delivered a great tool for managing data. Yet the genius of FileMaker has been to deliver this without compromising ease-of-use. Were updating our Agency Pro solution to make the most of its new feature set.
