Finally a wallet that stops Paywave and Transport cards clashing

The daily public commute just got smoother with Tappa+ Wallet promising “simplicity for a SMART World”

Sydney, Australia, 01-08-16

Opal, Myki and Go Card users can now travel on public transport without having to take their transport cards out of their wallets to tap on and off with this simple and safe wallet design from Tappa+ Wallet, a wallet that stops transport cards clashing with bank cards.

The Tappa+ wallet is a rugged, minimalist leather wallet, that let’s consumers carry their bankcards and their transport cards together, segmenting them into readable and unreadable compartments. This allows you to protect your credit cards, bank cards and personal identify cards from theft with full RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) protection, while allowing transport cards, work security cards or even low value Paywave transaction cards to be read from inside the wallet when the wallet is tapped on a reader.

“We have two real problems in Australia right now with contactless smart cards and everyday use”, says TJ Nelson the designer of the Tappa Wallet. “Card skimming, where thieves can steal money from your bank account by brushing past you and scanning your bankcards and “transport card clash”, where Opal cards or Myki cards are being disabled by Pay wave cards when stored together in a wallet. The Tappa+ wallet combines RFID blocking technology and design principles to overcome both these issues.”

Card clash is a common issue worldwide with MiFare technology; the technology widely used in contactless smart cards and proximity cards. In Australia card clash currently exists between transport cards and your common bank card, resulting in the transport card not being readable, and the need to remove it from your wallet to use it.

“Sydney’s Opal system is fantastic” explains TJ, “I think you will find most regular commuters agree, no more Monday morning line ups and speedy entry and exits. The only frustration I have experienced and the reason I designed the Tappa+ Wallet is when storing your opal card in your wallet, it generally doesn’t work unless you remove it. You can see most people keep it loose in a pocket or fumble around their wallet trying to find it. I have seen people drop all their cards when getting on a bus searching for it, people are lined up behind you, it’s embarrassing and frustrating for everyone involved.”

As Australia moves toward more advanced smart card technology and the usage of pay wave for public transport, card clash can also result in double charging. In London, card clash stemming from the Oyster system moving to Paywave, London’s equivalent of the Opal card, is so problematic the Government has issued warnings across many of it websites and list the risks of separating and storing cards separately.

The Tappa wallet is an essential wallet for city living, functional and safe and lives up to its tagline, “simplicity for a SMART world”. It is also a damn fine looking men’s leather wallet coming in three colours, Jet Black, Tin Roof Tan and Vintage Boot Brown (dark brown vintage style leather).
