Announcement posted by Gift It Now 11 Aug 2016

Queensland voted the Most Amazing State in poll conducted by online travel provider, Experience Oz

The ‘Sunshine State’ has been voted #1, taking out the title of ‘Australia's Most Amazing State’ in an international public poll conducted by Australian travel provider Experience Oz.

The poll, which received over 5000 votes from participants both domestic and international, ran for a month and saw QLD take the top spot, with Western Australia a close second and Tasmania taking third place.

The rankings were rounded out by the Northern Territory in 4th, New South Wales 5th, Victoria 6th and South Australia placing 7th. The ACT was not nominated for the poll due to its comparative size.

Voters were asked to cast their choice based on a number of criteria including which state has the highest quantity of “must-do” experiences, which is the most uniquely Australian, which is the most physically beautiful, and which, if friends from overseas were visiting, would they choose to best showcase what Australia has to offer.

The month-long poll aimed to gauge the aspirational travel habits of the Australian and international publics, while also highlighting the core regions and experiences that makes each state of Australia special.

Queensland's popularity as top destination was attributed to a number of factors, with its beaches, the Great Barrier Reef, theme parks, and warm weather all being touted as key factors for voters.

Western Australia's strong showing was likewise attributed largely to its natural offerings, with beaches, distinctive geographical formations and phenomena, marine environments, and wine all cited as aspirations among participants.

Tasmania’s popularity was also attributed to its natural beauty, with the likes of Cradle Mountain, Freycinet Marine Park and Bruny Island top picks for travellers.

Voters comprised of a diverse mix of nationalities, with Australia and New Zealand most heavily represented, but with Singapore, Malaysia, the United States and United Kingdom also featuring prominently.

Experience Oz Marketing Manager Matt Hobbs said the purpose of the poll was to determine whether travel industry perceptions of states' desirability as travel destinations aligned with that of the public.

“Our main aim for this campaign was to gauge the general view of the public as to which state is faring best as a “dream travel spot” if concerns such as price were not a factor”, he said.

“While we can look at raw sales figures and make some conclusion, there may be a reluctance for some travellers to visit certain states due to monetary or other external factors.
