Klika's Global Expansion Kicks off in New Zealand

Announcement posted by Klika Group 16 Aug 2016

Australia’s online retail powerhouse Klika gets cozy with New Zealand shoppers.
MELBOURNE – August 16 2016 – KLIKA, one of Australia’s top 20 online retailers with satellite offices in two other countries announced it has expanded to the New Zealand market where overall online shopping is rapidly increasing.

Pure play E-tailer Klika embarks on its latest strategic direction and has landed in New Zealand. While setting its sights on generating business revenue coming from Asia and Europe, Klika continues to expand its range of branded and privately labeled products. These products include kitchen and home appliances, trampolines, power tools, fitness equipment, consumer electronics and an expanded range of manchester and bedding, currently offering close to 2,000 products to shoppers in Australia.

“We think that New Zealand is an attractive market in the long term given its proximity to our Australian home base, and as a significant part of our current product offering is in high demand with our neighbors across the Tasman, we’re excited about filling that supply chain gap.” Klika's Director of Commercial Operations, Leo Zaitsev said, “The bricks and mortar businesses in New Zealand have been too comfortable with lack of competition and lax with their pricing strategies, and product offerings for far too long, however, will soon need to come to grips with the fact that the world has changed and we're all part of a global economy.  The expansion means our customers in NZ can now gain access to a wider range of products and brands at sharper price points.” Zaitsev continues

A recent AC Nielson study shows that 52%of New Zealanders will attempt to buy New Zealand made products, however Zaitsev was quick to point out that it was dependent on product category, brand and most importantly price.
"We have run trial campaigns on a number of online platforms with products being shipped out of Australia, and even factoring in the associated shipping fees and delivery time-frames, we are able to deliver products to New Zealand customers in some instances 30% cheaper than they could buy them locally, and in just 4 days from purchase."
"By partnering with multiple verticals in NZ, we have gained the ability to tap into customers that we may not have been able to do so quickly. As a result, our customers can shop more and get their parcels quickly when it matters most, and bring unprecedented levels of relevancy and timeliness to their shopping needs”.  Zaitsev said

One of the verticals which Klika has partnered with is Trade Me which is the largest internet-auction site in New Zealand and as of August 2015 had 3.7 million active users in a country with a population of 4.7 million.

Head of Trade Me Marketplace Stuart McLean said “We’re stoked to have Klika join Trade Me’s stable of international sellers. Kiwi kids love trampolines and gazebos are a hot ticket item over summer, so we reckon our members will benefit from their range.”

Whilst at present the products are being shipped out of Australia, Klika is in discussions with a number of logistics partners in New Zealand with a view of setting up local warehousing, to shorten the delivery time-frame and expand its offering to the bulkier lifestyle products it is well known for in Australia.
“We have shipped out millions of parcels in Australia and most of our customers are repeat customers, said Zaitsev. Our wide range of products, helpful sales staff, improved website, local warehouse and ability to ship out bulky items that many of our competitors can’t, all play a part in our ongoing success. Unlike some other online shopping platforms out there, we focus on products that customers are actually looking for. Our approach has proven to generate a greater acquisition and conversion rate thus far which we are confident will be mirrored in our expansion to New Zealand” said Zaitsev.

Klika has been around for over a decade and continues growing unlike many one hit wonders in the online retail space. Where churn is generally high in the online retail space, Zaitsev talks about their bullet proof retention rate and believe the key to their success understands the different demographics within their database. “We have a great Customer Intelligence Team (CIT), which through its analytics helps us engage the right person with the right message at the right time”. Zaitsev said matter-of-factly.
