A&A Art Display is pleased to present "THE ANATOMY OF ART" - A solo exhibition by award-winning wood carver and painter Michael Orgeron. 

"Michael's recent works have prompted him to go back to basics and explore the dimensions, complexities and contrasts of creationism and evolution in anatomical and surrealistic design with graphite and single tone work, taking inspiration from the studies of Leonardo Da Vinci."

About The Artist

With Cajun roots in the New Orleans bayou, but travels that have taken him across the world, New Orleans native Michael Orgeron met and married his West Australian wife in Perth and now calls Fremantle home, with their young daughter. Early artistic works included award winning wood carvings of Louisiana aviary, winning several Louisiana Wildfowl Carvers Guild first place awards for carving decorative decoys, along with watercolours of New Orleans flora and fauna. He has been carving with his brother since the early 1980's.

Technical design training as both a marine architect, and a graphic illustrator led Michael towards the production of an architectural watercolour masterpiece “Rue Ville” winning the Pirates Alley Award of Merit for Watercolour (1997). Rue Ville is a composite of "shotgun" houses, which are a typical architectural style of houses in New Orleans. The Pirates Alley festival was the precursor for the French Quarter festival, now a mainstay in the New Orleans cultural calendar. This award winning masterpiece was subsequently purchased by the State of Louisiana and now hangs in the courthouse in Covington, St Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

Throughout Michael’s global travels, the camera was often easier to manage than easel and watercolour tools, so photography became a feature for several years. Even now, many of his bird illustrations are taken from reference photographs that he has taken himself. An accomplished photographer and photo graphic designer, his photography ha also featured in south east Asian magazine publications.

Michael had suspended his art career for quite some time but picked up his pencil (preferred medium) again at the request of his wife a few years ago. With a focus on illustration and photorealistic styling and venturing into surrealistic reflection, birds are his true love, with anatomy his second. He focuses on close detail to investigate his subject with an eye for accuracy. His favourite artists are Edward Wilson, Rubens, and Da Vinci. 

Michael stills holds great passion for fauna and flora and continues to produce beautiful natural world pieces, and demonstrates a breadth of scope ranging from photo-realistic productions, to surrealistic artistic interpretation of philosophies and history.

The artist has chosen to support “The Cyrenian House” with a percentage of the profits of the art show. Specifically the “Saranna Women and Children’s Program”, as it allows mothers with young dependent children in their care to access a residential alcohol and other drug treatment service within a therapeutic community setting.
