Liberty Swing excites people with disability in Ipswich

The Liberty Swing is providing wheelchair users the opportunity to experience the joy of swinging, an experience that was impossible for many until just a few years ago.
Ipswich Mayor, Paul Pisasale recently opened a new swing at Robelle Domain in Springfield. The Ipswich Liberty Swing project was the result of a community partnership between local youth, Greater Springfield director Naren Sinnathamby, Variety, Division 1 Cr David Morrison and Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale.
Multicap customer Melanie was among the very first to try the new swing and her support worker Kerry said; “This was the first time in Melanie’s life she had ever been able to experience the sensation of swinging. It was wonderful to witness her joy and her smile stretched from ear to ear.”
Multicap CEO Joanne Jessop says, “The Australian designed and manufactured Liberty Swing is a revolutionary concept in playground equipment for people with a disability. It is wonderful that wheelchair users now have the opportunity to feel the freedom of swinging through the air and we are delighted that our customers in the Ipswich area can now experience this pleasure.”
The Liberty Swing is just one of many opportunities Multicap makes available to people with disability in Ipswich. The Multicap Ipswich Hub in Limestone Street encourages independence and allows customers to follow their own interests and focus on their abilities in all interactions and activities. The hub has a range of activities available including state of the art, touch accessible computers that every person can operate with ease.
