Micromuse launches version 3.4 of Netcool/Precision application

Announcement posted by Micromuse 02 Apr 2004

Extends technology leadership in auto-discovery, network topology and root cause analysis
Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSEE), the leading provider of realtime business and service assurance software, announced the general availability of Netcool/Precision version 3.4. Netcool/Precision is Micromuse's industry-leading solution for auto-discovery, network topology and root-cause analysis. The enhancements delivered in version 3.4, which draw upon feedback from Netcool/Precision's rapidly growing customer base, will enhance customers' overall experience in terms of installation, deployment, rapid discovery and accurate topology generation.
Tightly integrated with Micromuse's flagship Netcool/OMNIbus application, Netcool/Precision delivers automated, flexible discovery and dynamic topology, enabling realtime visibility of infrastructure status, connectivity and interdependencies.
"We use Netcool/Precision to monitor a very dynamic network," said David Sims, systems analyst with the Department of Information Resources at the State of Texas' Telecommunications Division. "As we add, remove and move customers throughout our network topology, Netcool/Precision keeps pace and provides superior monitoring across all of our connections. We have had many trouble cases in which technicians have contacted our customers before they were even aware that they had a problem. And we've also identified problems with our service provider before they were aware of them."
"Netcool/Precision has experienced rapid traction in recent months due to a wealth of technological advances we have made vis-a-vis our competitors in this software category," said Craig Farrell, Micromuse's Chief Technology Officer. "Version 3.4 leapfrogs the competition with even deeper and more accurate discovery, greater scalability and broader device coverage. The new version also significantly deepens Netcool/Precision's ability to discover and represent MPLS data, a key differentiator at many customer sites."
The Netcool suite combines Netcool/Precision's discovered topology database with Netcool/OMNIbus' detailed, realtime event store into a single, effective management interface. Furthermore, Netcool/Precision's tight integration within the Netcool suite provides a rich data store to mine for purposes of performing accurate root cause analysis.
