Multicap high-flyers are off to the USA

Announcement posted by Multicap 23 Sep 2016

Multicap would like to congratulate staff members Alex Flugge and Joel Guest on their selection for the Ability First Australia Professional Staff Scholarship Program.
Alex and Joel will be travelling to the USA in 2016/2017 as part of the Ability First/Easterseals staff exchange program.

A staff exchange program is an excellent way to facilitate the nurturing of the professional development of staff, and in turn, provide better outcomes for Multicap and the people we support.

Alex and Joel are both honoured and excited to be chosen for the scholarship program. Alex is “really looking forward to traveling to the United States and spending time learning about how our international colleagues deliver innovative supports.” He said, “I look forward to be able to provide information on everything I have seen and learnt during this experience with Multicap on my return. “

Joel said, “I am extremely grateful to be given this opportunity to connect with colleagues overseas and learn from them. I am hopeful that sharing my experiences with other Multicap staff will lead to more innovative support options at Multicap and empower myself and my colleagues to continue to deliver outstanding service and supports to people with disability.”

Multicap CEO Joanne Jessop said, “We are immensely proud of Alex and Joel, who both empower people with disability to reach their full potential and live as independently as possible every day. While on the tour they will view disability services, providing them professional development, and an ability to share and apply their learning at Multicap on their return. This will create more opportunity for Multicap to further enhance the lives of our customers and their families.”

Multicap is a member of Ability First Australia. AFA has been an affiliate partner of Easterseals since its inception. The strategic partnership encourages shared learnings, global research projects, global fundraising initiatives and developing best practice in service provision.  Both organisations are of the view that opportunities should be created for disability professionals including front line therapy staff to; experience informed and innovative techniques and strategies in supporting the children, adults and the families in their care.

Since 2014, over 48 people have participated in the Scholarship program. 10 Scholarships of $4000 are offered annually to the staff of the members of Ability First Australia. Alex and Joel are the first Multicap staff to be selected as part of this program.
