Intertain is an online marketplace for people who love connecting over delicious food through an effortless dining experience at home. The website at www.intertain.com.au will be the main go-to portal to fulfil diners’ needs for those that require an exclusive yet affordable private dining experience.

Intertain is at the nexus of the restaurant (11.6 billion), catering ($5.9 billion) and food delivery ($2.5 billion) industries; and is positioned to address segments of these 3 industry markets.

Intertain’s goal is to unify the intimacy of a dinner party, creating a worry-free environment where a professional chef creates an amazing meal at an extraordinary location (your home or office).

Through the Intertain web platform, diners can select from a variety of via chefs’ profile and menu. Through its seamless booking experience, diners will provide details about dinner booking including special dietary requirements. Intertain chefs are from some of the world’s best restaurants; attaining craftsmanship through minimum five years working experience. All chefs are carefully selected and thoroughly vetted through a stringent interview process, background police check, culinary and food handling certificates. This sets a standard for Intertain to provide quality-dining experience. Intertain chefs are covered by a $10 million insurance policy placed by CGU Insurance Limited.

For most chefs, the Intertain platform provides freedom and flexibility to create their own menu, price and schedule. Intertain acts as an intermediary between the chef and diner obtaining a commission from each dinner booking. 

Similar to sharing economy platforms like Uber and Airbnb, the platform allows for reviews and ratings to help improve chefs’ culinary offerings and the food industry. This in fact would be an opportunity to disrupt the entire food industry. 

Intertain chefs offer a wide range of menus from plated three- to four-course canapé style, shared family meal style, degustation and high tea. Pricing ranges from $44 to $220 a person for a three-course meal. Canapé meals typically cost $40 to $70 a person. The average booking per person is $90.

BEHIND THE SCENES

One year ago, former 3-time Olympic Track Cyclist and Commonwealth Gold Medalist Josiah Ng found it challenging to book a private chef for his wife’s birthday party. No catering companies within Melbourne allowed for a 20-person dinner party in less than two weeks of advance booking.   

“How nice would it be if there was a catering platform that allowed for a private dining event with a short lead time of booking,” thought Josiah.
 

Within days of casual conversation with Henry Choo (foodie, investor and restaurateur), the initial concept turned into a strategic partnership with Dragon Tree Ventures who provide corporate advisory.

Josiah leads the experienced team together with wife, Kim Ong, a food blogger with digital marketing and advertising background.

Strategic advisors Matteo Bruno (TV producer, food publisher and restaurateur) and Robert Clifford (former General Manager of Epicure) balance the team with their in-depth experience and expertise in the restaurant and catering environments. On the other hand, investor Wilfred Fan, MD of North Asia for Agoda advises on technology and business.
