Leading dementia care provider, Group Homes Australia, introduces yoga to residents

Announcement posted by Reconnect PR 21 Oct 2016

Yoga has been found to be more effective than memory enhancement exercises

The innovator in aged and dementia care, Group Homes Australia, has introduced yoga to their residents. Most of the residents living at Group Homes Australia are living beyond a diagnosis of dementia.

According to a UCLA study, yoga and meditation was found to be even more effective than memory enhancement exercises for managing mild cognitive impairment.

Yoga practice and meditation have been essential in helping adults improve their memory skills, reduce anxiety, and improve their navigation and location skills. These added benefits are key elements in the fight to reduce the risk of dementia

Locally in Australia, the University of Adelaide conducted their own research which discovered that visual-spatial memory was increased to a greater degree in the yoga-meditation group.

Participants practising yoga and meditation were also less likely to be depressed and anxious, and were better able to cope with stress.
