BeaconMi is a promotional and informative lifestyle application. That in itself is nothing new. Its distinction however, lies in the technology that it will be leveraging on - iBeacon using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), a proven technology that has already taken flight in various forms across cosmopolitan cities such as New York and London. BLE as clearly implied, uses a fraction of battery life. One of the modes of delivering the discounts and promotions is through BeaconMi’s notification alert on the lock screen of users when they are within walking distance of the stores.  There will be no need for them to open the application itself on their mobile phones. Within a BeaconMi enabled store, users can turn on their apps to discover further discounts, recommendations or stories about the merchandise or space.  These “bonuses” do not appear on the app till users are at the premises. Think of the highly engaging PokemonGo game, where the creatures appear only when a player is at specific locations. BeaconMi embraces the same concept of “bringing the audience to the theatre”, giving them not simply value in the discounts that they receive but the thrill of in-store engagement. BeaconMi’s partnering merchants have been encouraged to get creative and co-create with one another to come up with fun surprises for users. One store may actually hold “Easter eggs” for another. All discounts and promotions are exclusive only to BeaconMi users. BeaconMi will be made free for all to download. No subscription fees and no payment gateway had been built into the app.
