Author shaves head to raise awareness for Cancer Council of Australia

Announcement posted by InHouse Publishing 03 Nov 2016

Charitable author Michelle Heynen beat depression through writing

Reflections of Sandra is the raw and emotional account of author Michelle Heynen’s struggles with depression for three years after her mother died of cancer – until she found the gift in her experience. “My mother now lives in my heart and I feel nothing but joy and gratitude.” Michelle journaled her experience and she discovered a passion for writing and a love of helping other people find their spark again, as she has, and to help them through the cancer and grief journey.

Michelle found that death, grief, and depression were taboo subjects and while she suffered from these she lost some friends but discovered the importance of having the right people in her life. By opening communication about grief and depression, the stigmas surrounding these subjects can be overcome.

A book launch for Reflections of Sandra will be held on Saturday, November 19th 2016 at 5:30pm at 4/184 Kingston Road, Underwood, Queensland. At the book launch, Michelle will be shaving her hair off live on Facebook to raise money and awareness for the Cancer Council Australia.  A $5 donation, made by attendees on entry, will be donated to the Cancer Council and Beyond Blue charities. Donations to these charities can also be made on her website.

The Cancer Council Australia advises on practices and policies to help prevent, detect, and treat cancer as well as advocating for the rights of cancer patients to the best treatment and most supportive care. Beyond Blue provides information and support to help everyone in Australia achieve their best possible mental health, whatever their age and wherever they live.

Michelle plans to do inspirational talks for people going through the loss of a close relative or friend, encouraging open and clear communication about death and grief. Michelle also hopes her talks will reach out to and help those suffering depression, empowering them and allowing them to find their purpose in life again.
