New Delivery App Controversy Explained

The ASAP app (launched last month and dubbed the Deliveroo of everything) gives Sydney residents the ability to get Anything delivered in minutes. The app has been the target of controversy as some people feel this freedom could encourage the transportation of unsafe products and materials.

The app shows menus of popular restaurants and retail stores for users to browse freely. The subject of controversy though is the “Order Anything” button which opens to a text box allowing users to type in whatever they want, leading some to believe this could be used illegally.

Popular examples of the “Order Anything” feature include: Getting an ASAP driver to pick up keys or a wallet left at a friends house, getting something delivered from a store not listed on the app, getting something picked up from a store which has already been paid for.

While some insist the dangers of an open ended text box could lead to trouble, the ASAP Co-Founders insist there are enough security measures in place to ensure safety. Staff constantly monitor a backend which shows all orders in progress while all drivers are tracked in real time with GPS. Customers are also required to sign for their order and present matching ID and Credit Card on request.
