Australian and New Zealand Retailers Can Now Offer Greater Payment Options to Chinese Consumers to Take Advantage of Cross-Border Ecommerce

Sydney, 10 November 2016 – Azoya, a leading turnkey e-commerce solutions provider, today announced that it now officially supports WeChat Pay on multiple cross-border e-commerce sites in Australia and New Zealand, in time for the biggest online shopping event in China this week – Singles Day (also known as Double 11). Amcal, Pharmacy4Less and Roy Young are among the first Australian pharmacy retailers to launch WeChat Pay, as well as Net Pharmacy in New Zealand.

WeChat Pay is one of the most popular mobile payment solutions in China, with more than 400 million active users at the end of 2015. It is integrated into the WeChat app, one of the largest messaging apps in China. It can be used to transfer money between WeChat users, or to make payments online and with participating offline retailers, either by scanning QR codes or purchasing directly from build-in WeChat stores. After each transaction, customers are encouraged to follow the official accounts of the retailers, which makes it easier for retailers to retain and engage with their customers.

“WeChat Pay’s support for cross-border trade is a huge benefit to overseas brands and retailers,” says Don Zhao, Co-founder and Executive Director of Azoya International. “Chinese consumers are no longer required to have an international payment card to shop from overseas retailers. Retailers can also make use of WeChat features to maximise their reach to massive Chinese market.”

In the near future, more of Azoya’s retail customers will have their Chinese e-commerce websites equipped with WeChat Pay as a third payment option for consumers, in addition to Union Pay and Alipay. These include Pharmacy Online and Chemist Direct from Australia, as well as Pharmacy Direct and Kiwi Discovery from New Zealand. By supporting WeChat Pay, Azoya continues along its path to make cross-border shopping a frictionless process and provide complete solutions to cross-border retailers.
